Just have a bunch of restaurants that are totally different but have the same name. It's a new experience every time.

I really wish there were more more upbeat Chinese restaurants. All the ones you come across are small and a real depressing attitude. Not to mention most of the wait staffs barely speak english which makes the whole experience miserable.

Something like a PF Changs, but a little more casual and laid back, and not as expensive. Kind along the lines of an Applebee's or something, but focus only on Chinese food. I am sure there are some here and there, but PF Changs is the only chain I can think of that I recall seeing.

There is a reason Chinese take out is so popular. Nobody wants to eat at those places.

Although, they may do this on purpose to keep costs down and focus most of their business on take out.

When I think of restaurant I'd like to emulate, it's Applebee's.

You could basically insert any casual dining restaurant. I just went with that one. Not a local place, not an upscale small chain. Basically all I could come up with.

Also, Beansprout rules and I wouldn't change a thing about it. If you're made miserable by a cheap & quick Chinese place, you've got problems beyond where you're eating.

No, not like Applebee's. An owner or manager could totally change the format/menu/decor/whatever. It would just have the same name as other restaurants all over the country.

What I mean is they are usually all quiet and depressing. The decor is usually banal and lacking. They just aren't very upbeat. Sometimes I'd like to go out and watch some sports and hang with the guys and socialize over some Chinese food and beers.

And not a "quick" place either. An acutall full service restaurant....so, the business model of an Applebees, or TGIF, or a Ruby Tuesdays, only they serve Chinese food.

it's not bad... I mean, I guess I just grew to love Pearl living right beside it for so long, but I would take that over Beansprout any day. Almost everyone I know would agree with you though.

^5. You're describing exactly Pei Wei which is PF Changs but smaller. Have you ever been there?

You can get pizza at the KFC by my house. It's a Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, BP Station combo. It's great.

I'd emulate McGuire's Irish Pub. Great food and they brew their own beer.

We need a place that has a bunch of different kinds of cereals you can choose from. You could even mix different cereals together for a new taste sensation

When I was in elementary school I won a free meal + dessert at applebees. Can't remember what I got but I remember eating less than 3 bites and not being able to eat the dessert. I would eat taco bell every day for breakfast for a month than eat an app at applebees

I don't get what a "depressing attitude" in a restaurant even means

Red Dragon off Oberlin is probably the classiest Chinese place.

It's still the same old menu as any chinese restaurant but a very different environment, and you don't wonder if someone has sneezed in your food.

Yeah Dalat is awesome, their char siu banh mis are pretty hard to beat.

I am told by multiple actual Chinese people that Super Wok in Cary looks like a dump but is actually good and very authentic Szechuan food, especially if you don't order off the American menu. That may still count as depressing though.

It's gone downhill. We had it recently and everything tasted like cardboard. And I don't mean figuratively. It literally tasted like cardboard. I'll stick with 35 when I want authentic Chinese from now on.

Jade Garden was always good and though it's not fancy, it's a little nicer than most Chinese joints and with better food. Now that my college days are over and we go to Wilmington frequently since it's the closest large town, we go to Szechuan 132 a lot. I'd put it up against any restaurant of any kind in Wilmington or Raleigh, especially for the money. Good atmosphere, great food, and very reasonable prices.

^^Ha, well, I just learned of this a couple days ago and apparently they spent the whole meal talking about how much better it was than 35. Go figure. I haven't actually been to Super Wok, but I thought 35 was really, really good the one time I had it.
