As I was watching this I got angry at myself for actually liking it. It was so bad in so many ways, but most of them I didn't mind. I don't see how it's possible to make a longstanding show out of this (and will probably stop watching when they somehow try) but I reluctantly enjoyed the first 2 hours. Will be watching again next week.

I dug it, was afraid they were going to make the smoke monster thing the main antagonist for the whole series, glad they moved on

Based on the legend about that girl drowning it made sense to me for them to "give" the spirit in the river her mother. To me at least...

I enjoyed it quite a bit. As compared to LOST, it is pretty fast paced. I could see the same amount of plot development taking twice as many LOST episodes. Some of the story was a bit predictable, but overall I got a kick out of it.

The baby dolls were super creepy.

Favorite line came from AJ the cameraman, something along the lines of: "Just to be clear... The little girl who talks to ghosts says 'Don't go,' and we're going.... YEP!"

I liked the first episode, but I thought the ending of the 2nd episode was bad. I liked most of the episode until the quick resolution in about 5 minutes. Was kind of a let down. I'll continue watching though.

This show is the worst shit ever, right? It's contrived, it's racist, and it requires an ungodly amount of suspension of disbelief. That being said, I feel compelled to watch it until it's over. I GOTTA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!!

Starting to lose interest in this show, but I'll probably ride out the season.

The last 2 episodes had solid build-up and legends to use, but then I felt like the last 10 minutes of each episode was too predictable or ridiculous. This week's episode was obvious for about the last 15 minutes what they needed to do and how it was going to play out.

Hopefully the show will be less forgiving to some of the crew members the rest of the season.

I mean its the same thing every episode. crazy shit happens. little girl is the damn encyclopedia brittanica of every silly legend and superstition ever and warns everyone. nobody listens to her at first. then they do and solve the problem. rinse and repeat

Agreed, like there wasn't even a question of "will the phone work". It was immediately assumed.

I thought it was funny she was using a solar charger to get the phone powered up when she had the cable to connect it to the computer (shown later).

Definitely a show you have to suspend a ton of brain cells to enjoy, but they should at least not screw up on the simple stuff.

I was watching it with my lab laying on the couch with/on me. I covered her ears in anticipation of the yelp and when he didn't go through with it I was more relieved than any dude should be when watching a tv show.

Is it bad that I hope this series is just doing bad enough that they cancel it, but give permission for them to finish it via something like a mini-series?

The premise just seems like it would be better as a single season. Maybe I'm wrong, and it is well planned for multiple seasons. It just has a lot of shock and mystery that I feel would disappear after one or two seasons (though I guess that's no different than Lost and that maintained many seasons, but that is a different discussion).

The River is a poor attempt at recreating Lost in another setting with some tweaking. The show is far too episodic for me. Almost the polar opposite of Lost, which dealt with very long story arcs, with conclusions few and far, but it kept you hooked.
