I know someone that was complaining about owing $2. I wish I could dial it down to where I owe an insignificant amount each year. No interest free loan, no waiting on a refund (at least the looooooong wait that NC puts most people through), and you're not hurting to cut a check.

Depending on the amount, they'll send you a 99G with taxable interest income.

^^basically the government takes money out of your paycheck each month (loan) and then gives it back when you do your taxes (interest-free)

so instead of giving the government an interest free loan, you can opt to have taxes not taken out of your paycheck. take the money you would've paid in taxes and put it in some kinds of tax-deferred savings plan. clark howard has a lot of info about this on his website.

you people either have quick banks, etc. or no accounts. I've got my W2 and tax statement for 1 of 4 accounts.

Both of my banks have 1099 forms available online. So do both of my employers (W2 forms). Granted my finances aren't very complicated.

Getting back ~850 federal, owed 62 state. Not complaining too much but I usually get back closer to 1500, so that's a bit of a bummer.

*Yes, I am giving the government a free loan. I realize that. But for someone like me who is not so good at managing money, sometimes it's nice to be able to count on that good sized payment in February. When I move and change jobs later this year I need to look into one of those savings plans like begonias mentioned.

I need to do mine still. Damn I'm lazy. Especially when I should be getting back at least a grand. I paid a shit ton of interest on my student loans last year, so get a decent write off on that.

Fed ~300
State ~900

Weird that state return is larger than fed return... Has happened like that for the past couple of years.

1600 from fed, 900 from state.

I am ok with giving the govt no interest loans bc it feels like free money now.

how do some of you owe $5000+ ? might wanna holler at your payroll department and have them withhold a bit more throughout the year

I owe my amount because I did a lot of contract work, and didn't pay taxes on that amount all year, knowing I'd owe the amount at the end.
