"Forest Service in quandary about Colo. frozen cows

It may take explosives to dislodge a group of cows that wandered into an old ranger cabin high in the Rocky Mountains, then died and froze solid when they couldn't get out.

The carcasses were discovered by two Air Force Academy cadets when they snow-shoed up to the cabin in late March. Rangers believe the animals sought shelter during a snowstorm and got stuck and weren't smart enough to find their way out.

The cabin is located near the Conundrum Hot Springs, a nine-mile hike from the Aspen area in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness area.

Michael Carroll, a spokesman for the Wilderness Society in Colorado, said cattle are often allowed to wander on federal wilderness lands as long as ranchers get a permit from the Forest Service, and sometimes the animals get separated from the herd.

The Forest Service said Tuesday the animals came from a herd of 29 cows that went missing last fall from the nearby Gunnison National Forest where the rancher had a permit. An aerial search failed to turn up any sign of the animals.

Forest Service spokesman Brian Porter said rangers saw about six cows inside the cabin, and several dead cows lying around the building.

"There is a lot of snow, and it's hard to determine how many cows are there," Porter said.

U.S. Forest Service spokesman Steve Segin said Tuesday they need to decide quickly how to get rid of the carcasses.

"Obviously, time is of the essence because we don't want them defrosting," Segin said.

Segin said officials are concerned about water contamination in the nearby hot springs if the cows start decomposing during the thaw.

The options: use explosives to break up the cows, burn down the cabin, or using a helicopters or trucks to haul out the carcasses."

"Baby parrot rejected by mom called ugliest bird in the world

This little guy hasn't broken the mirror quite yet, despite being called a contender for world’s ugliest bird by The Daily Mail. The baby Kea parrot, named Nelson, spent his first month of life in an incubator at the Bergzoo in Germany after being rejected by his parents. He was the only parrot to survive and hatch out of the three eggs lain by his mother, although it appears that wasn’t enough to stir any maternal instincts in the older bird.

Now Nelson is being cared for round the clock by zoo staff and despite his baby looks, he does have something to look forward too. Kea parrots grow up to have olive-green feathers with a beautiful orange flash under their wings. They’re also known for their intelligence, so be careful what you say about little Nelson now because he just may remember and come back in full bloom to show you how wrong you were.

(what he should look like grown up)

So while he's been described as a cross between a roast chicken and an alien, I think this tiny bird has a unique cuteness (even if no one here in the office agrees with me!) What do you think about Nelson? Ugliest bird in the world or a distinctive cutey? Tell us in the poll below."

Sperm Donor Has Fathered 87 Kids the Natural Way

[/quote]
Quote :
"Houben, 42, looks more like the Dutch historian that he is rather than a sex machine, something that he readily admits. He also admits that he “barely had sex” when he began donating his sperm a decade ago.

“Ten years ago, I was not exactly David Hasselhoff in Baywatch,” he confessed to ABC News by phone from his home in Maastricht, Holland.

Houben initially donated his sperm the traditional clinical way at a sperm bank, but soon reached the bank’s legal limit for donations. He then went private, offering his services on the internet. And like many of the online donors, he also became an experienced practitioner in “natural insemination”- in other words, sex.

“From my own experience, statistically natural insemination is faster,” Houben says, referring to records that back his claim. “If people are coming all the way from Italy, they don’t want to be trying for three years.”

Houben points out that while it’s easy to accuse donors of looking for cheap sex, most of the women he sleeps with aren’t people he would choose as sexual partners.

“This isn’t Heidi Klum coming round and saying: ‘Let’s do it’,” he says. “It’s genuine people who I would never want to hurt. I have a good old fashioned Catholic guilt feeling and I would be a candidate for therapy if I did this for the wrong reasons.”

“In the old days I would gladly travel,” he says, “but my job has changed and I have to be around much more. Now people to come to me.” He still makes exceptions, however, if his recipients are entering a peak fertile period.

They come from all over the world. Houben claims biological offspring in Australia, Israel, Britain, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium as well as Holland. His oldest child is 9 while the youngest is a newborn.

He is by no means a world record holder. Houben says he once watched an episode of “Oprah” about a man who had fathered 200, a number he says he’ll never catch. But he has been called Europe’s most prolific sperm donor, and he’s happy to accept the title.

Houben meets 10 to 15 women a month. This week he’s seeing only one woman from Germany, and is using time off to be with his girlfriend. He’s genial, bright and witty on the subject of his pastime, but what his recipients value most of all is his commitment.

According to his own data, Houben succeeds in producing a child 80 percent of the time.

All his recipients must show medical records showing they are free from diseases and they don’t use illegal drugs. Houben has his own medical paper work with a semen analysis (spermiogram) with a very good 100 million sperm count. “According to World Health Organization, my sperm is above average quality,” he boasts. A sperm count that does not go beyond 20 million indicates a man is far less likely to get a woman pregnant.

As it’s illegal to sell sperm in Holland, so Houben’s donations are a vocation not a career.

Donor numbers have been declining dramatically in Holland since anonymity for sperm donors was ended in 2004. Those affected by the shortage the most, particularly lesbian couples, single women and those starting a second family have been turning to the internet. For them the options are costly private treatments of artificial insemination or the do it yourself approach. And there is no doubt that the online sperm donation scene is growing. Houben started placing ads on a growing number of websites and online forums to continue his “mission” after he had filled his state allowance of 25 pregnancies.

"Painting taken during World War II returned to owner's heirs

U.S. officials this week turned over a nearly 500-year-old Italian painting that had been stolen during World War II to the descendants of its Jewish owner. The painting, titled "Christ Carrying the Cross Dragged By A Rascal," was created by Italian artist Girolamo Romani around 1538.

The painting was confiscated by U.S. officials in 2011 while it was on loan to the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science in Tallahassee, Fla. The work of art had resided at the Pinacoteca di Brera museum in Milan, Italy.

The seizure came after a tip from a Christie's employee that the painting may have been stolen.

Federico Gentili di Giuseppe, an Italian Jew who lived in Paris, owned the painting. He died in 1940 and his sizable collection of art was sold by the collaborationist Vichy government. His descendants have been trying to reclaim his art since the late 1990s.

The heirs are planning to sell the painting at a Christie's auction in June. Reports say the painting could bring in as much as $3.5 million."

Man Dies After Peeing On ‘L’ Tracks In Evanston

Quote :
"EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) — An Indiana man died overnight, after coming into contact with the electrified third rail as he urinated on the Purple Line ‘L’ tracks in Evanston.

The man was at the South Boulevard Purple Line stop around 11 p.m. Sunday with two other people when he came into contact with the third rail, according to CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis.

The man, Zachary McKee, 27, of Ossian, Ind., was pronounced dead at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston at 11:52 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

It turned out that the man had climbed down to the tracks to urinate when he fell onto the third rail, according to a news release from the Evanston Police Department.

Authorities have not said whether the man urinated on the third rail.

One of the two people the man was with ran down stairs to the booth at the entrance at the station and alerted the security guard on duty to the situation, Lukidis said. The security guard then called Evanston Police and Fire officials.

The London Daily Mail reported that McKee had served four years with the U.S. Marines, in the Anbar province in Iraq and in Iwakuni, Japan. He served in the Marines for four years, until 2010, the Daily Mail reported.

At the time of his death, McKee was working toward his undergraduate degree in political science and government at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, the Daily Mail reported.

McKee’s Twitter page indicated that he was in Chicago for the weekend, and that he had attended a Cubs game at Wrigley Field and visited restaurants in Chinatown. He also tweeted that he stayed in a “jank ass” hotel in Chinatown.

Before his death, McKee tweeted, “There’s no stopping us right now.”

Contrary to legends and lore, the program “Mythbusters” has concluded that urinating directly onto the third rail is unlikely to cause death in itself. In fact, some purported cases of such deaths are actually believed to have involved direct bodily contact with the rail, as appears to be the case in the Sunday night incident.

The Straight Dope reported a couple of years ago that there have been two other local cases of people coming into contact with the third rail after urinating on the ‘L’ tracks.

In 1991, a 14-year-old boy was killed after urinating on the Red Line ‘L’ tracks at the Morse Avenue stop in Rogers Park. While some reports say the cause was urination on the third rail, the Straight Dope concludes that he likely suffered electrocution from direct contact.

In 1977, a man named Sang Yeul Lee trespassed onto the ground-level Brown Line tracks at Kedzie Avenue to urinate. Based on autopsy findings, the Straight Dope says he too likely died by coming into direct contact with the electrified rail."

No, I would say it's a need. I know plenty of guys who, if the bathroom was the same steps away and was clean and pristine, would still choose to pee outside.

This little boy at the zoo (probably 6 or 7), needed to pee on this specific bush. The bathroom was 20 feet away, and his parents were trying their hardest to drag him there. He ran back, dropped his pants in the middle of 300 people in line, and peed right on that bush. He was determined.

Harnett teen gets prison time for wreck that killed girlfriend

Quote :
"Lillington, N.C. — A Harnett County teenager pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in a 2010 wreck that killed his girlfriend at a Walmart store between Dunn and Erwin.

Dillon Tart's parents and defense attorneys contend he must have had a seizure – he had a history of the attacks – and that he did not intentionally drive his Chevrolet Blazer erratically through the Walmart parking lot and crash it into the store. His passenger, 16-year-old Ashley Moore, was a junior at Triton High School in Dunn.

Dr. Rukmini Menon, with East Carolina University Neurology, testified for the defense that she diagnosed Tart with epilepsy. He had two seizures in November 2007 and July 2008 and was not on an anti-seizure medication at the time of the wreck, she said.

Prosecutors showed video of Tart's crash and said that witnesses claimed to see the teens arguing heatedly inside the SUV shortly before the wreck.

"It would have been no different had he brought out a gun and shot her," state Deputy Attorney General Hal Akins said.

Teachers and friends testified Monday that the couple was in love, and they saw no signs of problems between them. One teacher called Tart a good student who adored his girlfriend.

Defense attorneys hoped that evidence of Tart's medical condition would lessen his sentence, and they got their wish, although he will serve jail time. He was sentenced to between four-and-a-half and up to seven years in prison."

Kind of a racy article for WRAL to post!

Quote :
"They're young and old, doctors and churchgoers, gay and straight — and those are just the MEN who have devoured oh-so-naughty "Fifty Shades of Grey," an erotic trilogy that has earned millions of women fans in a matter of weeks.

Reading on iPads and Kindles or hurriedly picking up the books in stores, some didn't know about the romance part, thinking the surprise best-sellers by newcomer E L James would be more "American Psycho" than steamy Harlequin.

Others knew exactly what they were getting into, buying into the buzz since Vintage Books bought the rights, shoring up a story that began as "Twilight" fan fiction and putting it out in handy trade paperback on April 3.

There's flogging and bondage and sex toys. And a steely control freak of a gazillionaire Christian Grey, a damaged sexual "dominant" who enlists the virginal (not for long) college coed Anastasia Steele for rough-but-consensual role play.

Jeremiah Wirth, a grad student and Iraqi war vet in Maine, said the opening book was nothing short of a life-changer. He read it on a business trip to "magical" Hawaii, returning home to Bangor a better man.

"I was away from my girlfriend. I was lonely and I was reading this book in this beautiful place and I thought it would be something fun and easy," said the 26-year-old Kurt Vonnegut and "Star Wars" fan, just a year younger than the fictional Grey.

"People hear about flogging and stuff like that in this book, and they don't get it. I became emotionally invested in the love story, especially from the female's perspective. That was important to me, to put myself in Ana's shoes. It was overwhelming, and I'll never forget it," Wirth said.

He was moved to send James an email, "apologizing for assuming that your book was anything less than it is: wonderful." And she responded, his deep interest surprising even her, "given that you don't fit the demographic of the readership (women 17-100) but I am delighted that you enjoyed it."

The book didn't shatter 66-year-old David Shobin in Smithtown, N.Y. The semi-retired gynecologist and newbie romance reader who writes medical thrillers on the side picked up the first "Fifty Shades" to see for himself "what all the hullabaloo was about."

He liked it well enough and received hundreds of responses to a funny review he wrote on Amazon.

"At my age, my arthritis flared up just reading about Ana's sexual gymnastics," Shobin wrote, adding that her "pyrotechnic climaxes resembled repetitively watching porn: after a while, it leaves me bored and yawning."

He conceded a "definite infectiousness to the plot" but found it hard to believe Ana had absolutely no sexual experience before literally stumbling into Grey's office to interview him for her college newspaper.

"I had an intellectual curiosity," Shobin said in an interview. "I don't quite know what to make of this sort of sexual activity but as a love story, it did succeed."

Will his wife be reading?

"Probably not," Shobin said. "I told her a little bit about the bondage part and she showed very little interest in that, so it was a short conversation. She mainly reads memoirs."

John Puckett, who is gay, spared no superlative from San Dimas, Calif., where he works as a theatrical manager about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Usually preferring autobiography and true crime stories, he's now reading all three "Fifty Shades" books for a second time.

"I was pretty much hooked from the beginning," said Puckett, 45. "It grabs a hold of you and it doesn't let go."

Most appealing, he said, is Grey's slowly unpeeled vulnerability, that "lost, hurt little boy who craves nothing more than to be deserving of unconditional love."

The books are flying off the shelves at the Books & Books stores in south Florida. James opens her first U.S. tour in Miami on Sunday. Movie rights have already been sold and the guessing game is on over who will play the lusty lead characters.

"I first found out about the books back in December, from men who wanted to buy them for their wives," said Mitchell Kaplan, who owns the Florida stores. "You really got the sense that these books are helping relationships in some way."

Dr. Mehmet Oz sees that potential, dedicating a recent show to exploring the books with an audience of women and, yes, men who have read them.

"This woman has gotten people talking about sex in a way that no one else could get them to talk about it," he said Tuesday night from the red carpet of a gala honoring Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world — James included with the likes of President Barack Obama and Rihanna.

Are sex lives changing, marriages evolving?

"They're not tying up their women. It's not about sadism," Oz said of men drawn to the books. "What it is about is people having an honest conversation about what sex should be like, what makes it feel better, what are the timing issues, how do we make it an important issue in our life rather than an afterthought. When the guys get into it I know we've got something going."

James, a Londoner and former TV producer with two teen sons, didn't attend the event but has called the books her "mid-life crisis." She replaced her original Twi-names as her story jumped from free downloads promoted on fan sites to not-free e-books and hard copy from an Australian publisher, then finally Vintage, the paperback home to Toni Morrison and Albert Camus.

Bob James, an ex-Marine and dad of four grown children, has heard of those two, but he's also a regular romance reader and a "Twilight" fan. He first read "Fifty Shades" when it was still fan fiction, coming across it on Facebook and a site for "Twi-moms."

"Most people who criticize it haven't read it," said the 50-year-old James, who is not related to the author. "They take things out of context and just pick the sex scenes out. I liked the romance. Ana is drawing him away from all the bondage stuff."

His wife, a regular volunteer at their church, rolled her eyes when he read her excerpts, "but not the sex parts," he said. Has he picked up any marital pointers from the attentive yet troubled Grey?

"I learned that I do need to show more of a protective nature toward her in public," said James, in Manassas, Va. "There's something that's drawing women to read it and it would behoove a man to know what that is.""

The Port Authority says the 30-pound Rhodesian ridgeback scampered around the runway for about 10 minutes on Wednesday while authorities unsuccessfully tried to collar her.

The agency says they had to find the pooch's owner aboard the Memphis-bound Delta Air Lines Airbus to help catch it.

The owner was brought out on to the runway. She called out to the 14-month-old pup and she came running to her."

^^^ My gf just bought that book. I called her while she was looking for it at Barnes & Noble, and she kept going, "I can't find the [whisper voice can't understand what you're saying] book." She repeated herself a couple times because I couldn't understand her and she just said, "forget it."

Turns out she was saying "porn book."

Quote :
"GREENSBORO, N.C. — Another former close aide to John Edwards testified Thursday about bungled efforts to keep the former presidential candidate's affair hidden from staff members, including an awkward encounter when she showed up at a hotel months after her work filming Edwards had ended.

For months in 2006, John Davis said that staff members had been concerned that the woman hired as a videographer was becoming too close to Edwards. For example, while other staff members called him "Senator Edwards," Rielle Hunter called him "Johnny" or "John," Davis said.

"Rielle is a very unique personality," Davis said. "Everyone else on the team had a political background. Rielle didn't have that sort of resume. She talked a lot about meditation and yogis"

Davis, who traveled with Edwards in 2006 and 2007 as a body man, is one of several former aides who have testified about their suspicion or knowledge of the affair during Edwards' campaign finance corruption trial. At issue is money from wealthy donors that was used in an attempt to keep the candidate's affair with Hunter out of public view.

Edwards' attorneys have said he didn't know about the money. Edwards has pleaded not guilty to six counts related to campaign-finance violations. He faces up to 30 years in prison and $1.5 million in fines if convicted on all counts.

Rielle's contract with the staff wasn't renewed at the end of 2006, but Davis hadn't seen the last of her. He testified that in February 2007, he ran into her in an elevator at the candidate's Detroit hotel.

"We exchanged brief pleasantries. I would have preferred not to have seen her," he said.

When he saw that she pushed the button for Edwards' floor — where Davis also had his room — he stopped on another floor just so he could get into a different elevator car. Shortly after, he was on the phone with his wife to express his shock at seeing Hunter. He heard a knock at the door of his room. It was the mistress, who came in to talk.

"She told me that she and Sen. Edwards were very much in love. And that he was concerned that I had seen her," Davis said.

The next day, Edwards called Davis into his room and denied that he was having an affair with Hunter.

"He told me she was crazy and that we should make sure she didn't talk to him," Davis said, adding that he was satisfied with his boss's explanation.

But not long after, a change was made in hotel arrangements that struck Davis as odd. Davis said he'd always stayed in a room close to the candidate, but that the staff began staying on a different floor than the candidate during trips.

"Mr. Edwards suggested maybe a little separation would be good," he said.

During a trip in September of 2007, Davis said he went to Edwards' hotel room to retrieve a cell phone that the candidate had borrowed from him. When he got to the room he could hear what sounded like a speakerphone conversation through the door, and he was able to discern both Edwards and Hunter's voices.

"I heard him ask Rielle if she was showing yet," Davis said. She would later have Edwards' child."

"Maumelle Mother Sues After Son Gets Cut From Team

Do public school students have a right to play sports?

The mother of a Maumelle High School student sued the school, district and state after her son was dropped from the basketball team.

Teresa Bloodman filed the suit in October, and after months of hearings, motions and rulings, a trail date still hasn't been set.

In her lawsuit, Bloodman says her son (a freshman) made the team after two tryouts last August. After three months of practice, the coaches held a third tryout for football players transitioning to basketball.

Bloodman says nine of the basketball team's 11 players were replaced, including her son.

The suit states:

"...the deprivation of the right to a full and complete education which includes competition in sports and consequently athletic scholarships impairs *John Doe of a property right guaranteed under both the U.S. and State Constitutions."

Bloodman contends holding a third tryout violated her son's equal protection right, because it's not the same method used by girl's teams when they pick their squads.

She also says coaches Michael Shook and Grover Garrison are not certified or qualified to coach, and therefore not competent to decide who makes the team.

Finally, she contends her son wasn't given the opportunity to appeal his dismissal from the team, a due process violation.

But Jay Bequette, attorney for the Pulaski County Special School District, says the Eighth Circuit has never recognized a student's due process right to participate in extra-curricular activities.

"The simple issue here is whether or not a student has a right to participate in extra-curricular activities; be it band, choir or whatever," Bequette said.

In the district's reponse to the lawsuit, Bequette quotes a prior Eighth Circuit ruling, which says, "There is no clearly established right of parents to have their children compete in interscholastic athletics."

Moreover, Bequette says Bloodman's complaint that Maumelle's coaches are not qualified is a matter for the Arkansas Department of Education, not the district. And Bloodman's claim the school violated the equal rights amendment doesn't apply, because her son is male.

*Bloodman's son is not identified in the suit because he is a minor

Authorities say a bear made famous by a photo that captured the animal falling from a tree at the University of Colorado has been hit and killed by two cars.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say the black bear was struck on U.S. 36 around dawn Thursday by one car and then another.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill told the Boulder Daily Camera that officials identified the bear as the same one whose photograph went viral by checking an ear tag that was placed on him after last week's tree incident.

Images of the 280-pound bear, its arms and legs splayed as it fell April 26, were widely viewed in newspapers and passed around social networks.

The animal was later relocated to a wilderness area about 50 miles west of ?Boulder.

"It's a bummer. It's so hard to go through this and not be able to give these bears a good place to live," Churchill told the Daily Camera. "The community sees relocating bears as a kind of perfect solution, and unfortunately it's a really difficult proposition."

Police say one driver had minor injuries after hitting the bear."

Army officer dies in Skype chat with wife

Quote :
"The wife of an Army officer serving in Afghanistan witnessed her husband's death as the two video chatted via Skype, his family said Friday.

The circumstances of Capt. Bruce Kevin Clark's death were not immediately available. The Pentagon said it was under investigation, and his brother-in-law said he didn't have details.

"We are entrusting the military with investigating and with finding out what happened to Capt. Clark," Bradley Taber-Thomas told The Associated Press.

Clark, a 43-year-old Army chief nurse, grew up in Michigan and lived previously in Spencerport, N.Y., a suburb of Rochester and his wife's hometown. He joined the Army in 2006 and was stationed in Hawaii before he was assigned to the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. He deployed to Afghanistan in March.

Taber-Thomas said in a statement that Clark died Monday while talking to his wife during one of their regular Skype sessions.

At the time of the incident, the family was hoping for a rescue and miracle, but later learned that it was not to be," he said. "Although the circumstances were unimaginable, Bruce's wife and extended family will be forever thankful that he and his wife were together in his last moments."

Clark's body was returned Thursday to Dover Air Force Base.

A funeral is planned in Spencerport, but details were not immediately available. Clark and his wife moved there in 2000. Military records show he was already a nurse when he joined the Army six years later.

He received a number of awards and decorations for his service.

"When you were in Bruce's presence it was apparent he served a higher purpose," Taber-Thomas said. "He was deeply honored to serve his country, and he paid the ultimate sacrifice to serve people, his children, family, community, and church."

A memorial service also was planned in Addison, Mich., where Clark graduated from high school.

"While we understand the interest our family's tragedy will attract given the unique circumstances, we ask that our privacy be respected during our time of grief," Taber-Thomas said.

Clark is survived by his wife and two daughters, age 3 and 9, he said."

"Iceman Mummy Holds World’s Oldest Blood Cells

It’s like the best—and oldest—episode of CSI ever imagined, and they finally have some blood to send to the lab.

The most ancient red blood cells known to man have been discovered in the 5,300-year-old body of the ice man Oetzi.

Researchers have long been looking for blood in the famous mummy discovered in the Italian Alps by hikers in 1991. But using a method called atomic force microscopy and a new laser procedure known as Raman spectroscopy, scientists finally found the classic doughnut-shaped red blood cells in a sample of tissue taken from around the deadly arrow wound in Oetzi's back.

The discovery is especially exciting because the new methods could eventually be used in modern forensics to help find the age of blood samples.

Scientists had previously determined Oetzi's last meal, his brown eye color, and recently published the ice man’s full genome. Next, maybe they can figure out whether he was an AC Milan or InterMilan fan.

The subjects on this week’s TIME cover aren’t models in pose. Jamie Lynne Grumet, photographed by Martin Schoeller with her 3-year-old son, is a mother from Los Angeles who subscribes to attachment parenting, the subject of staff writer Kate Pickert’s cover story. Attachment parenting has been on the rise over the last two decades, since the publication of The Baby Book by Dr. Bill Sears and his wife, Martha, in 1992. Its three main tenets are extended breast-feeding, co-sleeping and “baby wearing,” in which infants are physically attached to their parents by slings."

"Disgruntled Maid Puts Period Blood in Boss’s Coffee

A domestic worker in the western Singapore town of Choa Chu Kang pleaded guilty in court today to mixing her menstrual blood into a cup of coffee she had prepared for her employer.

The incident reportedly occurred last year; no motive for the crime was given. The 24-year-old Indonesian woman who goes by the name Jumiah had been working as a maid for a year prior to the coffee "mischief."

She now faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison, as well as a large fine. Her employer, meanwhile, faces a lifetime of making his own coffee."

"CARY, N.C. — A Cary teen who is accused of stealing beer, soda and champagne from three garages last week made it easy for investigators to catch him.

He left his cellphone behind.

On May 17, a homeowner at 125 Ethans Glen Court found his phone inside the garage.

When police called the number listed for "Mom," the woman said the phone belonged to her son, 18-year-old Tyler Karl Chupp.

Chupp admitted to burglarizing the garage at 125 Ethans Glen Court on May 16. He said he broke in and stole two six-packs of beer.

Police suspect him in two other burglaries that night – one at 115 Ethans Glen Court and another at 117 Cumberland Green Court.

Multiple cases of beer, soda and champagne, as well as cash and a cooler were taken from the garages, the search warrant states.

Investigators seized beer, champagne, wine, liquor, drug paraphernalia, miscellaneous pills, a comfort bag and a cooler from Chupp's home, at 112 Halpen Drive.

He faces felony breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear charges."

"Should This Little Girl's Big Bow Be Banned? 4-year-old's Hairstyle Sparks School Drama

There are bows and then there are Lady Gaga bows. Four-year-old Marcella Marino chose the latter for a school photo, only to end up in tears, according to her dad.

Photos: Lady Gaga's most outrageous hairstyles

The British primary school student asked her father, professional hairstylist Marcello Marino, to make her look like a princess for her upcoming class photo. The salon owner went more rock princess than Cinderella, and tied his little girl's long blond hair into a tilted bow, a look popularized by Gaga back in 2009.
Marcella loved the look but her school didn't, according to the Daily Mail.

"When she went for the school photo on Monday she was told she wasn't allowed to wear her hair in that style because of the dress code," Marcello told the British paper.

In fact, the primary school his daughter attends has a very strict dress code, which is detailed on its website. With regards to hair, the school requests ribbons or bows are "made of dark colors, maroon/navy blue/black" and states strictly that "Hair braids/beads may not be worn."

Microchips: the future of school uniforms

Marcella's hairstyle broke all the rules and none of them. It's not really a braid and kind of a ribbon, but according to her dad, the look was banned by school officials. (The school didn't return Shine's request for a comment by press time.)

"I am so disappointed," Marcello told the Mail. "I could understand if Marcella arrived with her hair dyed or something, but this is an elegant look which I think the school should be proud of."

[Lady Gaga redefines the bow in 2009. (Getty Images)] Lady Gaga redefines the bow in 2009. (Getty Images) Incidentally the school photo was rescheduled for another day for an unrelated reason so the bow look wouldn't have made it in the school's photo archives anyway. Marcello, who made headlines last year as an outspoken British reality show contestant, posted his own photo of his daughter's bow-style on Twitter.

Video: School dress code sparks controversy

Clearly, Marcella likes it and so does her dad. So how could a little bow, even a Gaga inspired-one, make people uneasy? Somehow, the archaic symbol of a good little girl (and Ms. Pac-Man) has become a rejection of just that. The Minnie Mouse hair-bow has been co-opted by a new generation of girls who are more media savvy and fearless when it comes to bold accessories.

Tavi Gevinson, teenage Rookie Magazine founder and feminist icon, wore the ultimate not-your-mom's bow when she made her debut at fashion week. Then a 13-year-old blogger surrounded by immaculately dressed editrixes, Tavi owned her outsider status with an oversize accessory. It's something she had been doing long she hit the fashion scene.

Like Marcella, Tavi's parents encouraged her own individual sense of style, even when those around her didn't. "I got very used to hearing people say, 'how could her parents let her go to school and get bullied for dressing like that!' but my parents weren't about to keep me from having harmless creative fun," Gevinson told Shine in an email. "Instead they taught me not to take what other people like that say to heart and I think it really helped me be more comfortable with myself and more able to give myself permission to express myself."

The amazing Tavi with John Galliano and bow.(Getty Images)The amazing Tavi with John Galliano and bow.(Getty Images)If those are the kinds of lessons kids can glean from unconventional style, shouldn't more schools support that? Advocates for strict dress codes, an increasing movement here in the U.S., believe they're protecting students by encouraging discipline and eliminating classroom distractions. In some cases, they may be on to something. But what's the harm in a little bow, or better yet, a big one? "

I think it's cute, I'm not sure how it breaks the rules other than being different. The bit of the rule that says no braids or beads seems a bit racism though. Are black girls only allowed to wear their hair like white girls?

Then I remember I thought I heard the front door open and close so I go out the front door and there he is "watering" the grass. He's got like 4 bathrooms in his house, yet he pees outside like some animal

Haylee's mom told KTVB-TV that her daughter is "extremely saddened and disappointed" saying, "This will change her life if she's not able to walk with her class.""

So she hasn't graduated and she's upset that she can't attend graduation?

Fuck it, this year's freshman class is only like 30 credits from graduating, why not just give them a cap and gown and let them walk too?

Sometimes people miss a lot of school and have to take summer classes or get held back a year. Just because it was cancer and not mono or something else doesn't mean she's special.

No shit, I didn't even want to go to my HS graduation, it meant less than nothing to me. If graduating high school and walking across a stage to shake a principal's hand is the high point of your life you should just go ahead and step in front of a train.

"HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating claims by two teenage girls that they were raped after a group of men gave them alcohol at a Holly Springs home Saturday night.

The mother of one of the girls said her 17-year-old daughter and two girlfriends met three men at McDonald’s on Western Boulevard in Raleigh. The group then decided to leave and drove in separate cars to the Holly Springs home of one of the men.

It was there, the mother said, that the men, all of whom appeared to be about 21 years old, gave the girls a fruit-flavored malt beverage with 12 percent alcohol.

“This made them so drunk so quickly that they were in no condition to run, to fight,” the mother said, adding that her daughter felt sick and locked herself in the bathroom. “The owner of the house had a gun and threatened to shoot if she wouldn’t unlock the door.”

The girl passed out after leaving the bathroom, according to her mother, and awoke to find one of the men raping her.

“She (told the man), ‘I’m a good girl. Don’t do this. Please don’t do this. Stop.’ But he went and forced himself anyway,” the mother said.

All three men then raped one of the other girls, who is 18, according to the mother. The third girl, who is 19, willingly had sex with one of the men, the mother said.

“(My daughter’s) life has changed. My baby will never be the same again,” the mother said. “I can only pray that God works on her heart and that, one day, we can forgive this scum.”

The case has been made more difficult, according to the mother, because the girls drove away from the house the next morning and don’t remember where it is. They also didn’t report the rape until several days later.

Wake County deputies confirmed Thursday that they are investigating the case but declined to release more details."

1. Why would the mother go to the news with this kind of story, and give all these details. Does she not realize she might hurt the investigation, and surely it doesn't make her daughter look good (even if it's true)...
2. Why would she presume to know whether the other girl "voluntarily" had sex with the men, when she's already said they were intoxicated?

"A Miami police officer on Saturday fatally shot a naked man who was chewing on the face of another man on a downtown causeway off-ramp, police and witnesses said.

The Miami Herald reports that gunshots were heard at about 2 p.m. on the MacArthur Causeway off-ramp, which is near the newspaper's offices. Witnesses said that a woman saw two men fighting and flagged down a police officer, who came upon a naked man mauling the other man. The newspaper quoted witnesses as saying that the officer ordered the naked man to back away, and when he ignored the demand, the officer shot him. Witnesses said that the naked man continued his attack after being shot once, and the officer shot him several more times.

Police said the other man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center. The newspaper said he had suffered critical injuries."
