anybody make their own hot sauce?
I bought a package of Habeneros, and I'm looking to make my own hot sauce out of it. I got Dave's Insanity Sauce once as a present once (best gift ever), but I'm looking for a homemade recipe. 2/17/2012 12:47:35 PM

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/bobs-habanero-hot-sauce---liquid-fire/ is very good. I am not usually a fan of fruit/hot, but this is an exception. 2/17/2012 12:53:16 PM

i came across that recipe in my initial google search, but i'm not particularly looking for a fruit-hot sauce (although habenero-mango chip dip is great.)

I had a small container of Skwinkle's peach hot sauce. That stuff was amazing! I love the undertone/flavor of the fruit! 2/17/2012 1:03:36 PM

I do have 3-year old honey and an old bottle of Old Spice aftershave around. No way I'm fucking eating that shit, though. 2/17/2012 1:05:42 PM

How does this happen? You need to diversify your hot sauce portfolio, man. Then the worst thing that can happen is that you're out of your favorite hot sauce. I currently have 13 different kinds of hot sauce in my house. 2/17/2012 1:37:02 PM

I tried making my own once.
Mcilhenny's crushes their peppers, ages them for three years in oak barrels with a salt cap, then blends the resulting mash with vinegar over a week-ish long process.
So I blended some up, threw in some salt, and let it sit in a ball jar in the pantry for a year. I ended up with a jar of crap, with some reddish-blackish sauce-type material at the bottom.
There's recipes on youtube that show how to make something that looks edible, though. 2/17/2012 2:15:39 PM
