Pretty much every terror plot since 9/11 has been government manufactured. Today they gave a guy a vest and told him to go blow up the capital with it and when he went to do it they arrested him for plotting to blow up the capital.

yeah, the same thing happened about a year ago here in Chicago when the FBI arrested some guy who thought he was going to blow up wrigleyville by placing a backpack with explosives in a trashcan during a dave mathews concert (as if a trashcan bomb could even be powerful enough to do any damage in the first place -- or as if anyone would really miss the dave mathews band or their fans).

Basically, the FBI finds some uneducated mope of middle-eastern descent, radicalize them, and then convince them to join "jihad" so that they can get a high level arrest out of the whole deal, and pat each other on the back for a job well done afterward.

You'd think a low-rent lawyer could argue entrapment, but I doubt this guy will get a good defense.

That is the crux of the entire discussion. Would these people have eventually connected with someone with the means to enable them to commit a terrorist act or is our FBI actually more capable than any current terrorist organization at doing that? How could we even possibly know?

Thats not how crime works. They might as well go around sleeping with people's wives and see how many people would try to hurt them afterwards. They would eventually have somebody sleep with their wife, right?

It's probably really difficult to find actual terrorists, their goal here isnt to do that

Their goal is most likely to make it seem like the FBI is on top of their game with the intention of making actual terrorists too scared to set up shop here.


It's kind of like the prostitution stings... Those probably end up deterring far more people from seeking a prostitute/cop that they catch.
