it's not actually a ripped DVD, but the files are the same...i used a dazzle DVC100 and the included software to convert home videos on VHS to DVD files and that's fine...but there's static/blue screen at the beginning and end since it just plays through and i'd like to remove them before burning the DVD

free would be nice

better to use something like ffmpeg (free) to clip the video and just cut out the parts you dont want.

^ i might be reading that wrong, but won't that only work for an AVI or something? i already use virtualdub for the converted video, but i'm trying to clip two of the DVD chapters before i burn it (i don't care to have a DVD, personally, but it's for family)

It should work on mpeg (and mpeg2) as well, but if you're already using virtualdub, why didnt you just cut the video out there, before mastering it back to dvd?

i might not have explained myself well...the dazzle device is just an RCA-to-USB converter and you just play the VHS and the software records it...but it ONLY outputs it to DVD format, so when it's done, i've already got the DVD (with menus and chapters and everything)

from there, i can convert it via h.264 for my own purposes...but i was hoping to just trim the first and last chapters before burning the DVD files to a DVD because they've got static (especially at the end because i just let it run so i don't have to sit there and turn it off when the video is done)

maybe it's just easier to convert the output DVD, edit, and re-author?

DVD Shrink

Use the "reauthor" feature and only add the chapters that you want in the final output. Then save as an .ISO file and burn that to dvd or whatever.

We are trying to tell you that the way you are trying to solve the problem is more difficult than other methods.

why didn't you just say that to begin with? you could have just answered "yes" to my question: "maybe it's just easier to convert the output DVD, edit, and re-author?"

i was not aware that virtualdub would allow for the editing of .vob files...i'll double-check
