this offseason has been really underwhelming.
Andres Gallaraga, Dana Eveland, and those two guys we got in the Guts deal are pretty underwhelming. Depth, I suppose.
I'll be interested to see how the new asians do.
Also, here's to Matusz, Britton, and Arrieta finally finding the groove.
Otherwise, this looks to be our 15th losing year, so I'll probably not follow it too closely. Just sit back and enjoy whatever is out there to enjoy. 2/18/2012 5:39:06 PM |

the o's recently got banned from scouting in south korea. there's a rule that MLB teams aren't allowed to sign kids before they're done with school, and this kid still had a year of high school left. the repercussions are that the team gets banned from any activity in korea, and the player is also banned from playing or coaching for the rest of his life.
all this fucking organization had to do was not talk to the kid for another year. instead, they ran themselves out of one of the biggest growing asian talent pools, and they've essentially ruined a teenager's career in his country before it even got started. it's mind-boggling that this team continues year in and year out to make itself worse. i guess that's what you get when you sign a fucking GM who got run out of the game before cameras were ubiquitous technology in cell phones.
i don't know why i keep rooting for the orioles. it's just getting more and more embarrassing every year. brian roberts is done because his brain won't stop quivering since he's an idiot and decides it's a good idea to dive head first into 1B. all the young arms are busts. best case scenario we get a 3 starter out of arrieta. matusz and tillman are fucking broken. there is literally no hope.there was a rumor floating around that peter angelos is quietly looking for someone to buy the team, but that's probably just wishful thinking among the people of baltimore. i can't wait til that motherfucker drops dead. him and bud selig. god damn it.
at least i have the nats as my NL team, and my office is now a 10 minute walk from their stadium. tickets are cheap, and they actually have talent.

Something tells me Adam Jones won't be around for too much longer
he'll be a free agent after this season, and i can't imagine he wants to play the rest of his career with a losing team. the orioles won't be competitive for years, if ever. trade him at the deadline and get some prospects.
and let's hope Machado and Bundy pan out. the farm system is trash. 2/20/2012 11:50:56 AM |

my roommate looked up golden sombrero on wikipedia during the game. apparently 5 is a platinum sombrero, and 6 is a titanium sombrero. kinda stupid, but whatever.
edit: also love how smug wieters looked on that play at the plate when he flashed his glove at the ump afterwards

Quote : | "3. Baltimore Orioles, 19-9 (131 RS, 97 RA) (last week: 8)
A week ago, we expressed concern over Baltimore's pending schedule, starting with three games in New York and three in Boston. Five wins in a row later, it's time to slot the O's with baseball's elite teams. Every time we promote Jason Hammel, he one-ups himself, striking out 13 batters and allowing just four runs over 12 2/3 against the Yanks and Sox and moving into the top 10 among MLB starters in Wins Above Replacement. Meanwhile, Matt Wieters and Adam Jones both rank in the top five for AL position players.
But this week's hero has to be Chris Davis. The slugging first baseman/DH put up two horrible games in one Sunday, striking out five times, hitting into a double play, and going 0-for-8. But he would add another position to his repertoire at the end. After the O's and Red Sox battled for 15 frames, Buck Showalter looked at his lineup card and found no relievers left. What he did find was Davis, who last pitched in competitive ball for the Longview (Texas) High Lobos. Not only did Davis hold the line, he looked downright dominant at times, hurling two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, and striking out Jarrod Saltalamacchia (!) and Adrian Gonzalez (!!) while topping out at 91 mph with a wicked changeup (!!!). Finally, after 17 innings spanning six hours and seven minutes, the O's completed their first series sweep at Fenway in 18 years, and Chris Davis became the first American League position player to earn a win since Rocky Colavito in 1968. The scouting report is out: Don't mess with Chris Davis. Or the Orioles." |

Rat Soup All American 7669 Posts user info edit post |
yeah it's may, but this is the best team we've had since 05, and that team got bit by the injury bug, and then the pitching went to shit
both of those things could still happen, but i think this team is a lot better. chen has definitely benefited from being a complete unknown facing the AL the first 2 months, and he's probably due to regress, especially once people realize they need to stop swinging at his high fastballs, but hammel has been very good, too. idk if it's just a combination of being away from coors field as well as developing a 2 seamer, but it's working well for now. the offense kicks ass. the starters are ok enough. britton is coming back soon. the bullpen has been awesome.
it's early. i understand it's early. i don't expect a whole lot from this team, but at this point it's pretty reasonable to think they can finish above .500, and all i care about right now is breaking the fucking losing streak. they're fucking up dylan bundy's development, but god damn it i'm going to enjoy what's happening as long as this team will let me. 5/20/2012 1:37:27 AM |
