A Time Warner Cable woman came by my house this weekend trying to sell packages around the neighborhood. I told her I was interested (since my DirecTV bill went wayyyy up) but I was about to leave the house. I gave her my number.

She called yesterday and basically started signing me up for TWC, then towards the end asked for my ssn. I told her I wasn't comfortable giving that out over the phone...she said she could run it based off of my drivers license number, so I gave her that and she had the "operator" run my credit score. She came back on the line and said my credit score wasn't good enough and I'd have to pay the first month fees up front. I know for a fact my credit score is great (just checked yesterday)...

So the question is.....I want to sign up for TWC, but should I do it through this lady (who is offering a better deal to get the sale)? Or should I go directly thru TWC??

Ask for a copy of your credit score that they ran, verify authenticity.

TWC reps should be able to offer you the same deal as this lady, just tell them what you want, and they usually comply. Especially if you say "I know I can get this deal."

Well you could

1) Sign up through the site.
2) Get the number from the site and stop dealing with some lady who goes door to door selling shit

Could this be a troll?

Time warner is not some cult that you have to get approval from some lady who wants your SSN to join. They want nothing more than loyal customers. This is not rocket science. Everyone has TWC. It is not complicated.

I bet everyone on this forum has parents who can't use their DVR and only watch the SD channels, but they all managed to sign up for time warner. It is really not rocket surgery

No I didn't give her my ssn. That's why I thought she was sketchy...but she was offering a better deal than anything listed on their site.

If you want a good deal with time warner here is what you do:

1) Sign up and pay for a few months
2) Call and say you're going to cancel because ______ (insert U-Verse, DirectTV, Dish) Offered you $XX per month for what you're already getting
3) They already over-charge you and will give you whatever this lady offered.
4) ....
5) Profit

Again the only thing Time Warner wants is your money every month forever. They don't really care how much it is as long as they can depend on it.

^^^ No shit. How else would she know whether or not you had TWC. Its not like they would give her a list of every home that had TWC and told her to go to the other ones

and jackass or not, i've given you solid information as to how to get what you want. you're welcome

Yes, TWC has field reps that go door to door. I signed up via one.

The guy I worked with gave me Roadrunner, a normal cable package with DVR/HD, and home phone for $79/month. I did add HBO and I might be paying a little more for a second receiver (without DVR).

Lol on the real. I got UVerse through a door to door sales dude last year, when it first came out. Got a killer deal- a bunch of extra dvrs for free- but then everyone else got Uverse and the service started to suck

oh my bad i didn't read it fully.

did you google her number to see if its a legit TWC #?
is providing a ssn a required step to setting up cable?

i would have asked for her number, ensured it was a valid TWC number, then called her back and provided whatever she wanted.

This dumbass always disappears for a few months, then comes out of nowhere to ask a stupid question that a normal 9 year-old with common sense could answer.

For her sake, I hope she can find a man that can take care of her...because she seems clearly incapable of doing it herself.

No lie there is a TWC street team that came by my house one time trying to talk to us about fiber optics. Seeing as 3 of us here are electrical engineers and one of my roommate's dad is the engineer at TWC that was in charge of their fiber layout, we gave them a little bit of shit wasting their time before telling them we already had TWC

^^ they do. I have a friend that is a Direct Sales Rep for TWC. Basically he goes door to door selling TWC services and upgrading existing customers. It pays pretty well too. Base Salary + Commissions + Vehicle/Phone allowance

Jbrick...I wanted a fucking opinion... I didn't need help setting up TWC, I didn't need help googling her fucking number. I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced something like this or if anyone thought it was a scam.

I don't need a man to take care of me, I have a college degree, I have a full time job, and own my own house...last time I checked this was a forum...a place to chat and ask questions so fuck off

Did she have a TWC ID Badge? All door-to-door reps are required to provide a photo ID badge before entering your house. They usually wear it on a lanyard around their necks.

I think it's funny how she thought it was a possible scam, so she didn't give the woman her SSN...but instead gave her driver's license number.

"Well I'm sure she can't do anything with this..."

You almost can't make this shit up. What an idiot.

A good portion of their job is to add services to existing customers. They are provided with lists of current TWC customers that only have 1 service and approach them to add additional services.
