So Bruce Weber fired from Illinois. The last 9 years @ Illinois he has 1 Final Four, 1 Sweet Sixteen, 2 2nd Rounds, 2 1st Rounds, and an NIT quarterfinal. Yet they fired him? Where is the media saying Illinois should be happy with that success? Why do they feel they need better success? 3/14/2012 10:17:28 AM |

^^ LOL. Shaka Smart turns down Illinois so they go for Hamilton? Sounds like the Missouri plan.
Hamilton would be smart to bolt right now. He will never achieve more than he did with FSU this year and they are going to be much, much worse next year especially if Snaer decides to go pro. Plus at FSU, football is still king regardless.

According to the sports talk radio shows down in SC, it was a done deal as of Friday. Maybe they jumped the gun some. I still think Martin could have waited for a better opportunity than SC. They don't give a shit about basketball in SC and will continue to get raped for their good players by the better programs in NC and all over the southeast.
I do agree that it is a better situation than Manhatten and a better conference than the Big 12. 3/26/2012 8:06:25 AM |

Because it's fucking South Carolina. They haven't won an NCAA tourney game since I've been alive and NOBODY gives a shit about basketball down here. I'm surrounded by USC fans and as of this week, 99% of them didn't even know their coach had been fired, much less care about it.
Although I think Martin can do a little better because of his personality, it's almost impossible to recruit down here. In the region, you either want to go to an ACC school or get the fuck out of South Carolina. And nobody is dying to play in the SEC (although it is slowly getting better).
If Martin hadn't butted heads with the K-State AD, there's no way he goes to SC (except for a huge raise...and apparently they are paying him a lot).3/27/2012 12:52:26 PM |

I think it's a good move for Martin. besides Kentucky, Florida and Vanderbilt, the SEC is pretty even in terms of level of shittiness. he's proven himself to be a good coach, and I would think it would be easier to recruit to Columbia, SC over Manhattan, KS
granted I've never been to Kansas but I also see no reason to ever go there 3/27/2012 1:02:53 PM |

Columbia is a shit hole. I don't know of its any better than Kansas State...but there's a reason basketball coaches haven't been able to recruit worth a shit there in a long time. You can't take them to basketball games because nobody goes. Your best bet is to get them to commit during a visit when the football team is playing.
I've seen K-State play on TV and they've got a lot more "atmosphere" than USC does. Bottom line is that its not a "step-up" in program. At best...it's a lateral move. But if you hate your current AD and they're throwing $2 mil at you...then I guess you have to make the move. 3/27/2012 2:14:27 PM |
