I've seen this a lot on here. People really say this? Like..."I got pulled for going 45 in a 55"

I've never heard anyone I know say it this way.

What's the deal with this?

It annoys the shit out of me.

No, I'm dead serious.

Nobody I know says it like this.

Its always "I got pulled over for speeding"

or

"Yeah, that dumbass cop pulled me over for running a stop sign"

Just saying "pulled" sounds fucking retarded IMO

Saying "I got 'pulled'" can mean nothing other than "I got pulled over by the police"

It's like saving breath. "over by the police" takes too long to say when people know what you mean by the time you get to the word 'pulled'

No shit.

I was just using it a sentence.

Its pulled over, not pulled.

I got pulled over for going 45 in a 55.

Its not

I got pulled for going 45 in a 55.

That just sounds stupid.

Give it a week, month, or year. You'll be saying it naturally

This is one of those things where I've probably heard and said both about equally, but now that I know that there's somebody out there that is faggy enough to care about this one way or the other, I'll probably go out of my way to say "pulled" from now on in the hopes that someone gets annoyed about it.

What an epically stupid thing to get angry over.

what a dickhead cop to pull you for going 10 mph under the posted speed limit

you could fight that in court. just say you were accelerating up to 55 at the time, or that you were uneasy about road conditions so that's why you were driving so slow

My mother also says "park" and I've never really thought about it. I didn't realize that it was unusual until my husband started WTF'ing me about it.

Apparently not everyone.

Perhaps it's a NC thing?

ENGLISH. HOW DOES IT WORK.

Seriously, how the fuck does "pulled over" make literal sense to begin with? Does the cop lasso your car with rope and then you get "pulled over"? Why get butthurt when someone uses one idiom over another?

Cop car got behind me with his lights on and tailgated me until I parked the car on the side of the road with him parking behind me. 80 in a 55.

it probably started as "pulled"

as in "pulled from traffic" or "pulled off the road"

but, since 90% of the time the person pulls over to the shoulder, the phrase "pulled over" developed

I am not an etymologist. This is merely conjecture.
