Quote : | "Yeah, you probably shouldn't post a photograph that includes the last four digits of Peyton Manning's credit card number (we've blurred them, just to be safe). That's bad publicity for the restaurant. It surely can't afford for the Raleigh glitterati to think that all their checks will be posted on Twitter.
It comes as no shock that Manning's a good tipper. I'm sure he held the door for people when he walked in, called his waiter "sir" and pulled out the chairs for everyone at his table, all while donating money to charity and shaking hands with strangers.
No, the only thing that's surprising about this is that a restaurant with "Barn" in its name has such a pricey menu." |

For some reason I never thought celebrities names would show up on receipts, etc. like normal people. I always thought they'd use an alias of some kind, or use a managers card that they fund or something so as to avoid signing for things and having people gawk over it like this. 3/8/2012 10:06:45 PM

The server "Jon" is the brother of my coworker. I saw the receipt when I woke up on Saturday morning on Facebook (Jon posted it Friday night). His status was the pic of the receipt and something about how it was nice that big athletes still know how to tip.
Anyway ~noon on Saturday, the owner of the Angus Barn called him and asked him to remove the post and that they would have a meeting Thursday (yesterday) to discuss what they were going to do with him.
Tuesday is when the shit really hit the fan. Apparently one of Jon's friends had shared the picture via FB and then somebody posted it on some nhl.com forum. Lots of blogs picked it up. Wednesday night is when the news stations started to pick up the story. Called Jon all day/night on Wednesday trying to get a statement and called his mom's house too.
Jon knows what he did was wrong and is ready to just move on with his life. He emailed an apology to the owner of Angus Barn on Wednesday. Not sure how their meeting went yesterday.
as of yesterday, he has not been fired yet.

Still don't understand why its grounds to fire him. He didn't divulge anything personal other than the fact that Peyton ate there and that he spent a lot on a Mastercard. The world already knew he was in the area and its no big surprise that a multimillionaire dropped some coin at dinner.

I don't disagree with firing him, because he embarrassed his employer and should have known better.
But let's not get ridiculous. you can't actually do anything with the last 4 digits of a credit card number and the owner's name. No actual harm was done here. 3/9/2012 10:36:50 AM

You can actually figure out quite a lot with the last four digits and the fact that it's a mastercard. I'm not saying you could hack into it and steal everything he owns, but the last four digits are the most important numbers on the card.

But really, what could a bad guy do with just the last 4 digits? Even if you knew the person's name and address, and the last 4 digits. What can you do with that? 3/9/2012 10:49:13 AM

And no blog/newscast has mentioned his full name. Just called him "Jon"
So Jon thinks they called up to Angus Barn and an employee said "Oh yeah, that's Jon ____" and might have given them his number
b/c the person that orginally shared his FB picture was a coworker of his at Angus Barn. The person that posted it on the nhl.com forum was a friend of the coworker's.

Something tells me a bunch of worthless do-nothings are the only ones who could possibly give a shit about this. I could see it if he were bitching about the tip, but the server posted a positive statement that makes Peyton Manning look like a great guy. Big deal. 3/9/2012 12:38:54 PM

I was thinking the same thing. I think I'd have to call the Angus Barn and tell them to just chill if I were in his shoes and I heard about this. Or at least tell my assistant to send the guy some autographed junk to sell.
