Because you need to get somewhere and you don't want to make a 10 mile detour to the next bridge on foot? I did it countless times on a bike when I was mountain biking daily.

Crazy I probably just missed this whole scene by about an hour last week. I'm currently working in Fayetteville, but drive back down to Florence, SC every night. I leave work about 6:30, which puts me crossing mile marker 6 around 7-7:15.

Anyone walking/standing in the middle of an interstate deserves to be run over.

just because you did it to save yourself some time and energy (your own personal justification) doesn't necessarily make it the safe or legal thing to do

I really don't like seeing people crossing roads that they shouldn't. It doesn't surprise me one bit that several people are hit every year on capital, but it is a totally preventable thing.

I crossed i85 once, but the pig cooker I was towing had a tire fall off and roll down the road, I could not tow the pig cooker with no tire and was trying to find it.

There is nothing particularly unsafe about it IMO. Sure, you have to use your head and cross at a safe time, but that's the case that should be the case with any intersection. When you're crossing a major highway you only have to look for cars coming in one direction. A busy downtown intersection has a lot more things to factor when weighing your decision to cross.

I dont think most of our brains can effectively judge the speed of an oncoming car at 80mph and the time it takes to cross 4 lanes

I have been stopped beside the interstate on a couple of different occasions, twice from car trouble, once from the pig cooker (which I had to cross) and its not a good feeling. I have also seen dead bodies beside the road on a couple of occasions, also not a good feeling.

It is one of those things that is wise to avoid...I can give a broken down motorist a better pass for doing it than a pedestrian just wandering down the road.

Yep, I ran the guy over causing $1,200 worth of damage to my girlfriend's car. The 18 wheeler hit the guy and never saw him. He stopped about a 1/2 mile later and called the cops. I was in the left lane and the cop was responding to the call was flying up behind me with his blue lights on, so I was changing lanes to get to the right. Right then I saw the body and it was too late. The cop thought I just hit a big piece of metal, so he didn't stop. I called 911 and once all the cops, paramedics and everyone got there no one spoke to us for about 2 hours. Later I found out the 18 wheeler hit the guy first.

They said they just figured out who it was because the security at the South of the Border called the police. He said a scooter was sitting there for a couple days. I'm not sure the guys name, but it was a 22 year old from South Carolina. What is weird is the scooter cranked up and ran just fine, so why would he ditch his drivable scooter, then walk 6-7 miles? I'm taking it better then my girlfriend. She keeps having nightmares. I did for the first couple nights.
