Can someone tell me the physics behind smell?


Is smell "atoms" that fall off a substance? I'm clueless.
How do we smell atoms apart?

I'll let you guys joke me for this later on, but I just don't understand how a shark can smell blood a mile away when the blood "particles" haven't traveled to his nose yet.


and I don't understand how this girl can be allergic to dairy just by smelling it or being around it.
