99% chance we will be getting relocated there next month. Anyone live there or from there? 3/24/2012 12:12:12 AM |

Other than a few decent steakhouses, there's not a damn thing there. Good luck. 3/24/2012 12:24:11 PM |

Thanks- job is supposed to be a year and half- so at least it won't be forever. Rentals are stupid expensive though for such a small town! 3/24/2012 2:02:07 PM |

The whole town is one overgrown truck stop.
Hope you like buffets. 3/26/2012 9:57:32 PM |

^Yep. I've been through Amarillo a couple of times. Not only is there really nothing there, but there's nothing anywhere NEAR there either.

General Rule for Texas: If you are sentenced to time in TX, your first choice is Austin. There is no second choice.
As it happens, Amarillo is especially horrible, even by Texas standards. Think Farmville, NC, but much drier and without the high culture. 3/27/2012 2:18:25 PM |

Only for those few months (March - May). Occasionally you will see something outside of that, and the small blip of stuff in the fall. Other than that, summer sucks and winter is awful.3/27/2012 2:26:53 PM |

Stayed overnight there once on a cross country trip. Woke up and walked outside, the air smelled like manure. We drove to a gas station an exit or two away, still smelled like manure. I can only that think this is because it is, in fact, a shitty place to live. 3/27/2012 11:13:19 PM |
