badass banjoist and north carolinian, originated teh three finger pick style, played with bill monroe which was basically the origin of bluegrass
you have the internet you can look this stuff up if you really wanna know
if I had to guess knowing your taste in music this may be the only song of his you know

dang this is sad. he did for the banjo what no one else had ever done or will do again with any other instrument.

honestly, I did do this. I saw it on MK's status, which mentioned his relation to NC (about 15 minutes before you made this thread), and I looked him up. Still was unfamiliar and still didn't really care
but sorry for all his fans. Sucks to lose someone who entertained you/made you happy with their craft
