Littlefoot.

For some reason Fry's dog doesn't faze me. I have no idea why. Heart of stone.

I realize fry's dog gets a lot more attention these days but you have to put it in perspective. All of those feature length animated films have a sad part in them, some sadder than others: bambi, lion king, land before time, up, 101 dalmations etc. Its expected going into the movie that there will be s sad part. While it doesnt make it any less sad, you know its coming. Futurama had never done ANYTHING like this. They may have had some thoughtful, poignant moments but the last scene in "Jurassic Bark" was a completely unexpected curveball that threw everyone for a loop. I'm sure its lost its punch due to all the hype it gets. But what futurama did, in as far as sad scenes, far surpasses any disney/pixar/lucasfilm animated picture.

I came in here to post

Littlefoot made me cry as a child. I could handle losing my dog a lot easier than losing my Mom.

The Story of Shep

http://www.fortbenton.com/shep/story.html

^it's not at all about losing your dog, I don't think anyone would ever disagree with you about that. its about your dog losing you and it's undying loyalty afterward
