I went to check the oil a couple days ago and noticed the dipstick is gone. I think it fell into the oil pan and I am wondering if anyone knows an easy way to get it out. I really don't want to have to take it to the shop for this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. 4/1/2012 4:10:10 PM |

is it steel? perhaps you could fish it out with a magnet. 4/1/2012 4:32:38 PM |

I think it is plastic. I bought one of those magnet retriever things and it doesn't work. Plus my roomate who knows a lot more about bikes than me said he thinks it is plastic. 4/1/2012 5:10:40 PM |

only option i can think of that doesn't involve opening the thing up is a set of mechanical fingers. that's probably a long shot, though. 4/1/2012 5:24:41 PM |

id say just buy a new dipstick
fuck the broken one if you can't get it out by the oil drain plug

I can't see that happening, if it's the whole stick, not just a tiny piece
I'd try getting it out through the drain plug with mechanical fingers 4/1/2012 11:07:52 PM |

dont understand why you think it is in the engine and not lying on the road somewhere 4/2/2012 7:28:09 AM |

^b/c the bike has been running funny lately and how could it get onto the road? If it fell off the cap then it has nowhere to go but down into where the oil is. There is no way it could go anywhere else. And yes I for sure want to get it out and I don't want to have to take it to an expensive shop for something I could do for free. Thanks for the replies though. 4/2/2012 9:48:13 AM |

If you can't see it through the filler opening, you will probably have to drop the oil pan, which will involve taking off the plastics and the exhaust. 4/2/2012 10:32:39 AM |

I never saw a dipstick until I got my 06 R6. I've never seen a honda with one though... my 01 rc51 has a window. 4/2/2012 12:06:08 PM |

Have you ever actually taken it out and seen a dipstick? I've only ever seen Yamaha's with dipsticks. Most just have a cap and a sight glass. 4/2/2012 3:48:03 PM |

I've come to the realization through the posts in this thread and looking at the owner's manual that I don't believe it ever had a dipstick to begin with. I'm a noob. All I know how to do is drive it but when it comes to the mechanical stuff changing the oil and putting air in the tires is about it for me. But the reason that I thought it may have fallen in is because my bike has been acting funny lately.
When I just cruise around it is completely fine and runs top notch. But if I fully open up the throttle and let the RPMs get above say 9,000 in any gear the bike often will stall itself out. It shuts down in mid drive and I have to coast to the side of the road and start the bike back up. It is like there isn't enough fuel getting to the engine? I was thinking that something was blocking the oil flow and the bike was shutting itself off to keep the engine from getting screwed up which is why I had a dipstick theory when I noticed there wasn't a dipstick. If anyone has a clue as to what could be causing this problem please let me know. 4/2/2012 4:43:04 PM |
