I know I know it's now called the SRT Viper. But that's gay. To me it's the Dodge Viper.
Anyway, the unveiling is tomorrow at the NY Auto Show and I cannot wait. All the teaser images suggest something quite visually stunning. 4/3/2012 9:34:36 AM |

i really want ford to get into the sub 100k "supercar" game.
I mean i know the next mustang will have 650hp but... it's still shaped like a mustang.
make a VALID vette competitor.
I've heard they're bringing back the Ford gt again... but it's still a little rich for my blood as it will probably sticker between 100k & 150k and then the dealers will make it over 200 due to demand.

The rear tires have a 355 section width, holy Christ!
Press release says it has a better power to weight ratio than the Lamborghini Aventador, but they don't tell us what the curb weight is. Fuckers! 4/4/2012 1:53:54 PM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
My guess.... 3200lbs
they did say it lost tripple digits in weight... so could be 100lbs could be 200
Aventador 691 hp/3470lbs
Means the viper (640hp) weighs under 3213lbs 4/4/2012 1:58:49 PM |

GM better have a new ZR-1 with 750hp 4/4/2012 10:56:38 PM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
Shouldn't be hard. Bigger crank pulley smaller blower pully, an bam! 750hp
But yeah the 48k gt500 will now have this kind of power so... Gm better step it up because the zr1 is no bargain anymore. 4/5/2012 7:12:28 AM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
I bet to differ. The ZR1 would still decimate the GT500 around a track by a huge margin, as well most anything else costing less than $250,000. 4/5/2012 8:09:59 AM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
yep... i agree... but decimate by 65 grand worth?
Hmm.... i dunno...
and if this viper comes in under 6 figs... there will be some crickets in the zr1 camp
the z06 will still be flying out the door though.

Alfa Romeo from the front, and Maserati from the back. Which is a good thing, but it just makes it look a bit less American than the original. Not a fan of the carbon fiber on the rear fascia. Painted metal would have been better.
Quote : | "The rear tires have a 355 section width," |
Damn, those are widest ever on any production car except the Veyron! (Veyron has 365). Diablo, Murcielago, F40, F50, and Enzo all had 335, and Countach had 345.
Here is an interview that Autoblog had with the SRT CEO:
Quote : | "AB: The new design is pure Viper, but it seems to have some influence from those Italian super cars. What's the percentage of the Viper that's American, percentage that's Italian?
Gilles: Maybe five percent Italian. The seats, the seats are the same supplier as Ferrari. It's all American. Done inside, done outside, it's all all American.
AB: You've raced Vipers before. How has your experience on the track influenced the changes made to this car?
Gilles: It allowed us to have a conversation with our motor sport side. They brought in the racing technology, like the X brace for example. That comes straight from the ACR-X, and our Competition Coupe and our GTS-R history. We know our chassis so well, we know its, quote, unquote, weak points, and we took care of all of that. A lot of that came from racing and putting stress on it.
As a driver, to me I think, it's taken me almost a decade to figure out how to drive that car , and I love driving it. But it shouldn't have to take a decade, you know? The new car, the mission for (the development) team, was to make it so that any one can extract the best out of this car. It still has a bite to it, but it's subdued. But I'll tell you, this car is incredible, you wear this car, you don't manage it, you wear it." |
