It was mine and in his defense it's quite a nice track ready M. Short shifter, square, and best of all Bilstien PSS9s.
He can over steer for a few months and then say he's been there and done that. 4/9/2012 10:08:09 PM |

I know, I was forced to do it. Too many road trips in the A3. That was a really sweet car, and will be missed. I'll update that thread.
The e46 is immensely more capable and steering is weighted better but it's not as personal and my god I hate the engine sound even though it does rev sky high and that's nice. 4/10/2012 2:59:56 PM |

Ya, I just changed the oil and cleaned it inside and out, looks pretty good. I don't suspect it'll need anything else going forward, which is good because I need to finish up the Porsche once I get some time from work. Just got some parts back from the machine shop yay.
Mr golbasi, I have no idea who you are.
I don't think the BMW rack (or the mounting system) is as polished as the Porsche's. It is fairly quiet though, and how it looks is sort of irrelevant as I use it all the time and I'm glad that I don't have to disassemble my bike -not to mention put it inside the car when it's muddy- all the time. Added bonus, I can bolt in my titanium axle saving about 14 grams, which will surely mean winning every race from now on.
I'm not going to lie, I'm starting to like certain things about it, the grip is immense, chassis balance is great and most Mazingly, bump steer is non-existent. Mpressiv.T///M. I will probably put it on track fairly soon. Just adjusted the shocks a little stiffer and it seems to ride much better about mid way between full soft/stiff. 4/11/2012 10:27:02 AM |

Where did you buy the oil? I tried to find castrol tws 10-60 locally bit had no luck. Might just have to suck it up and go to the stealership 4/11/2012 10:52:48 AM |

I've de-riced many a BMW. Would never put "angel eyes" or blacked out anything on any car I have!
I ordered the oil through work, I used Lubro-Moly 10-60 Motorsports something. I believe I would've spent $190 in parts w/the filter if I were paying list prices. :o 4/11/2012 10:58:00 AM |

I blacked those out the first day I had it. The car really is as tasteful as it gets for an E46.
PSS9s are probably the best compromise between street/track suspension. The stock stuff is far too lazy, but some of the more beefy track setups are harsh on the street.
Ahmet bought it from me, because he knew everything about the car having driven it numerous times, and the fact that neither he nor I are fucking ricers...so no black grills or vents.4/11/2012 1:50:00 PM |

Those came from the factory the way you've pictured it Mr. panties in a bunch.
However, keep in mind BMW have whored themselves out to the point they'll put halo lights on X3s. They were cool on the M5 when they came out, now they're played out. Direct your sandy vag to the boys in Munich. 4/11/2012 2:28:58 PM |

exactly my point. so as long as it's stock its ok?
i'm just trolling ya because I happen to think the angle eyes look really great! they def make a BMW stand out. now Audi, Merc, Porsche and a bunch of other car companies are putting accent lighting on the front end of their cars. i like the trend as long as it's tasteful.

I'm currently driving around an old beat up Tahoe (company car).
I don't know what I'm moving to next. I'm tired of having an bit of a compromise in a sports car. I will probably get a truck and then go back to a 911 or something.
There is always the chance I'll get into this.

I don't like LED running lights, particularly on Audis where the LED has to turn off for the turn signals to work. All manufacturers going to LED/"halo" lights doesn't make them any more tasteful, in fact, demonstrates my point of them being played out. It's like the obnoxious fins from a few decades ago. They looked good on a few token cars to begin with, then less so as everybody else adapted them.
Anyway, the e90 M3 is a great car, perhaps the best dual purpose car yet, but I'm really missing my 911, a lot. If there were 26 hours in a day, it'd be back together by now! 4/12/2012 9:20:22 AM |

1in10^9 All American 7451 Posts user info edit post |
I have litterally been looking for last year and half or so...
in terms of '08s ...
$33k will give you high mileage with accident listed on carfax or lemon buyback $35-38k will give you high miles or questionable service or car with few or no options $40k will give you normal 50k car $42k will give you lower mileage car with few good options above $42 i dont even look as it is ridiculous
on forums there is a dealer that offers new ones slightly above invoice...you can get stripped '12 for $62k...a lot of money, but not in comparison when $40k gives you 4 year old car with relatively high miles.
best time to purcahse this car will be end of '13 as F30 M3 gets revealed. this will be a sweet spot for purchasing for depreciation/age/miles.
currently 335i and 911TT are at that sweet purchasing spot. 4/13/2012 5:55:14 PM |

Honestly I don't recall the last time a car grew on me this much in a few days. The chassis balance is brilliant, the engine is amazing (if a bit low on torque). The car builds speed deceptively fast, which is odd because it's screaming and buzzing w/that annoying tone only it's engineers could love.
I plan on taking it on some long trips for bike racing (Spartanburg this weekend for example), but it shall see track work soon, I will make it happen!
VS. a 996: The 996 has a more refined and more pure feel, but the e46 has every bit the performance while being easier to drive under most circumstances but it IS edgier in accepting throttle input. The 911 has to be trail braked to turn in. The 996 also takes a much better timed and modulated throttle input or it either wants to under or oversteer. Though the M3 practically never understeers on throttle, it's response is far less predictable in its severity. 4/17/2012 9:51:07 PM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
Driving this car back to back with my 911 is a pleasant change of pace. There really is a lot to like about both. The 911 is a more organic driving experience but the M3 is much easier to rotate and is a more willing chassis mid corner. -Still hate the exhaust tone. 5/1/2012 9:20:56 PM |
