My employer wants to sponsor a team to ride in the MS Tour. I've always done a lot of mtn biking, but never any road biking. I need to get a good road bike, but something not too expensive as this will be my first road race.
I think based on my research I need about a 58 or 59 cm bike (as I'm 5'10").
What can I expect to find for a used bike with about $600? Any suggestions? 4/11/2012 2:41:07 PM |

Don't get a hybrid.
Look for Trek, Giant, Specialized, anything from the past 5 years or so. Hopefully something with a 105 setup or better.
If you're 5'10", you'll want to ride a 54-56cm bike. I'm the same height.
A base model Trek road bike runs about $700, so if you're willing to spend a bit more than you want you can get a brand new bike from a store.
Performance Bike as some new Fuji models for around $600, looks like they have some decent components as well.
Bikesdirect will be your best "deal," but you're going to have to put it together yourself.

FYI, I'm 6'3 and ride a 60cm. I don't think you want 58cm. My friend that's 5'10-5'11 rides a 56cm.
Besides craigslist, you can also find a few road bikes for sale on the trianglemtb forums http://trianglemtb.com/yabbse/index.php?board=11.0 4/12/2012 10:34:54 AM |
