Powder or Liquid?

Brand Name or Cheap stuff?

Do you fill it up to the line or just say fuck it?



I like Gain, but i'll get whatever is on sale. I feel like I use way too much liquid and it gets used way too fast.

Purex liquid. Follow the washer's instructions for how much to dump in.

I started using the Tide Pods because it's easier than pouring shit into a cup or getting powder everywhere. Might cost more but it's worth it for my needs.

caveat: i have a front loader LG Steamwasher, so my shit has to go into the tray, not directly into the drum.

I used to make my own using this recipe I saw on 18 Kids and Counting. But then I started getting a lot of Purex for free using sales/coupons so I use that instead.

I have a container full of laundry detergent samples that I've gotten in the mail and if I'm really running low, I'll use those. I used to get trial size shampoos/soaps/conditioners etc in the mail all the time and thats what I used in college for toiletries b/c I was so broke

I like liquid

Brand name

Tide Totalcare for my darks (I swear they have lasted a lot longer since I wash clothes A LOT)

My dad got me 5 gallons of Gain (don't ask) and I will eventually get to using that for everything but my darks. It will probably take me at least a year to use all that shit.

I'm usually a Tide girl though I do like Arm & Hammer...it's great for whites!

Oh and I used to just say fuck it and pour as much as I wanted, but now I try to pour to the line

I will say, I have nothing but positive things to say about dat Arm & Hammer with dat OxiClean

Even when I had a top loader, that shit was magical on whites. But Pods>>>>everything.

not terribly picky but I usually get brand name. Most of the time I get the fragrance/dye free version of All Small & Mighty.

I used their liquid recipe for many many years. It was fantastic. Now we've got an HE machine, so we use Tide HE.

I prefer liquid because the powder doesn't dissolve very well when washing larger loads.

I absolutely LOVE Arm & Hammer with oxi clean because it seems to work really well and it makes your laundry smell incredible. I use Gain when it's on sale and I haven't bought Tide in a while, but I like it also.

^^ It doesn't waste money because it is actually cheaper depending on what coupons or sales you have available for store-bought stuff and it really takes hardly any time to do. People make it for the same reason they do other stuff DIY: to save money or have control over what ingredients are in something or how something is made.

We don't make our own because we don't use enough with just the two of us, but we have friends with kids who definitely save money by making their own. Probably 50-75% cheaper when I looked up the ingredients for what they used vs what we buy (and that was with us already buying stuff on sale or with coupons).

It's much cheaper. I can make laundry detergent for a year and spend ~$5-$10 on supplies. (10 gallons of detergent)

I just went to Lowes and bought one of those 10 gallon paint buckets and thats what I make my laundry detergent in.

Maybe all in all it cost me $20.00 ($10 for the bucket and maybe $10 for the Fels Naptha, Borax and washing soda). Lasted me at least 2-3 years. Oh and when I would get free detergent (whether it was from sales/coupons or samples in the mail), I'd mix a little bit of the free stuff in with my homemade detergent to give it a scent.

The only thing about the detergent is that it is unscented. I've known people that have added essential oils to the detergent to make it scented.

^^ The washer tells me to remove the "doser" out of the drawer for using blister pack detergent. Pretty sure I'm going to trust their instructions over Tide, which has to cover their ass for all sorts of different models of washers.

^yes! You can make homemade dishwasher detergent with just Borax and Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda. Oh and a food-safe citric acid. That'll help get your dishes sparkling
