So I just saw an article on facebook about some woman who heard a lot of backlash after killing a giraffe in Africa. WTF America? Why do I feel like we are the only country in the world that is anti-circus/zoo animal hunting and anti-horse slaughtering. Europeans actually eat horse meat, but for some reason that is illegal in the USA just because we have this almost human perception of racing horses. I really don't care if people hunt lions in Africa as long as it is done legally.

^^And what is wrong with killing one? It is a wild animal just like a turkey or deer, only it lives on a different continent.

Bc there are less of them in the wild.

Deer have a hunting season bc they're giant rats that run into cars.

^I know there is some poaching, but they also do it legally. They aren't going to make the animal go extinct. Eskimos are actually allowed to hunt walrus and I think non-Eskimos are allowed to also, but it is very limited on the number that can be hunted. I mean it's just a giraffe and a lion.

Giraffe population has dropped from 140k to 80k in the last 15 years.

http://news.discovery.com/animals/endangered-species/giraffe-population-drops-40-percent-in-15-years-141203.htm

Apparently there are 30 million deer in the USA. A million in ny state.

and to go along with the big game hunting discussion... yes the numbers are much lower than things like deer, but the cost of hunting something like a lion or giraffe is enough to drastically limit the number of those animals that are taken. And the funds generated for those animals are generally put directly into conservation and the net result is beneficial to the species as a whole. Also, the meat is not generally wasted... usually goes to the population of the area.

Is there corruption and the occasional poacher? probably, but that would be the case even if no legal kills were allowed, and then that small fortune wouldn't be available for conservation efforts.

Post actual examples/statistics of this. I want to know many giraffes/lions/rhinos/etc are/have been added to the population for every X dollars that come in.

It is a taking point and the justification given, but I refuse to believe it till I see data.

^^If that's true, that's, uh, interesting.

I'd rather they rely on generous wealthy folks to fork over some cash now and then...without the you-get-to-off-a-giraffe bonus.

I'd personally participate in a contested public execution before I'd kill a giraffe. Unless my people were starving...in that case, I'd kill one of those majestic creatures with a quickness. Still, I seriously doubt I'd brag about it on Facebook.

LOL! People are offended because a bunch of attractive blondes and a football player appeared in an Alabama sorority recruitment video? I guess people will complain about anything these days including college kids having fun.

^LOL, at the desk for that segment, NBC Today had three pretty white ladies and a dude.

But their "reporter" for it was a pretty black lady.

This sorority should take note: get out there and find at least one pretty black lady who's willing to hang out with you.

I'm not saying they're required to have a black girl. But it's generally good to at least nod in the direction of diversity.

As far as ugly people go, it's still 100% A-OK to discriminate against them. Also, people who talk funny...they're weird, and we're all aloud to say so to their faces.

They actually did have 215 minority students join Greek life, but not that sorority. One article said minorities generally aren't interested in Greek life. Also, there was a black man in the video, so they did include minorities and men. This is just someone making a big deal out of nothing.

Someone on packpride posted this image and said google said this could be the woman who wrote the article about the sorority at Alabama.

The other AL Bailey who didn't write the sorority article.

http://www.al.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/08/the_other_al_bailey_no_i_did_n.html

Interview of AL Bailey who did write it...

http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/08/alpha_phi_sorority_video_colum.html

Quote :
"AL.com: How did you come up with the idea for the story? Did you just see the video, or how did it come up?

Bailey: I had seen some of those sorority recruitment videos before, like a year or two ago. My husband and I were talking about it and we can't remember how we came across them. I know some people who have children old enough to be in college and who have joined sororities and those type of things, so I don't know if it's something I had been searching for at some point or if he came across it on one of those sports blogs. He seems to think that he had seen them before on sports blogs, because that's where men go to talk about women apparently.

So I had seen them before and they stood out to me as slightly odd, I just had never seen anything like that before. I didn't know it existed, I didn't know that it was a thing. I saw it and I was immediately struck by its production value because it was better than the ones done in previous years, and like I said I was in TV and I have an idea about production value. And it just seemed so shameless in its self-promotion of the girls."

http://www.refinery29.com/2015/08/92825/duke-university-fun-home-objection

Quote :
"On April 1, Duke University announced that the "Common Experience summer reading book" for incoming freshmen would be Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, the cartoonist's coming-of-age graphic novel. The text was assigned to give freshman a "shared intellectual experience," as well as something to discuss during their orientation week. This should have been good news to every freshman, from the eager overachievers who could come to school ready to discuss not just the book, but the Broadway musical as well, in addition to the less literary set, likely excited to be assigned a book that can easily be finished in an afternoon.

But some students aren't at all pleased with the reading selection, going so far as to refuse to read it because it interferes with their religious beliefs. As Duke's paper The Chronicle reports, one student, Brian Grasso, voiced his objections to the book on the class of 2019's Facebook page, writing, "I feel as if I would have to compromise my personal Christian moral beliefs to read it." Like-minded incoming freshmen were also quoted in the article, like Elizabeth Snyder-Mounts, who said, "I thought to myself, What kind of school am I going to?""

you are right it is "extremely stupid" but to suspend the whole fraternity over the issue is stupid and overlooks the fact but being another example of hyper-sensitivity of America. Much like the confederate flag being an indicator of [ignorant dumb white trash lives here], if anything these banners should be indicators of which frats for the daughters not to visit.....

first off, not sure you reading comprehension skills (sic)

The quote should be "it's fucking stupid and in extremely poor taste" not "it is extremely stupid"...there's a difference

Secondly, fuck those guys. They deserve to get suspended. Do you not believe in consequences for your actions? They represented the fraternity and fucked up so the fraternity gets the penalty.

Bc if you did that at your job you will get fired in a second. This is not people being over sensitive, it's people acting like idiots and that has consequences.
