Just an FYI....In my experience the sleek looking "indoor HDTV" antennas are shit. A pair of 4' tall rabbit ears from the 80's has better reception if you can deal with the looks. A lot of stations that you can receive in Raleigh will be spotty or fail altogether on the new antennae, but they will work fine on the old stuff.

Obviously an outdoor roof mounted antenna would outperform either, but that isn't a good option for most people.

^ is right...though i have several friends whose experiences agree with the 4.5/5 starts (nearly 1000 reviews) of this one: http://www.amazon.com/Paper-Thin-Leaf-Indoor-Antenna/dp/B004QK7HI8/

^ I might have to get one of those. I'm probably ditching cable in a couple of months.

i've already decided to ditch cable this month...$70 (after tax/fees) was my limit for RR/digital cable (i used to pay $60-65) and the best they can do now is $75...gotta hold strong to my principles

Since I moved a few months ago I thought I would see how long I can stand not having cable and so far I haven't missed it at all. The only things that sucks is you don't get as many sports but you get over it by appreciating not having that bill. I am trying to get another box and antenna for the tv in my bedroom.

Hate to derail the thread, but what kind of channels can you pick up with something like this? The significant other wants cable, but I hesitate at the ridiculous cost for even basic cable nowadays.

^If you pay attention you can get some good deals. We've had Dish for over a year now. The first year I was paying like $30/month and now I'm paying $49 this 2nd year after the 1st year promotion ran out.

It's their lowest package but it includes tons of stuff (more than I even need) and DVR in two rooms. That's pretty dirt cheap for what they offer if you ask me.
