Surely you have some sort of credit union available to you. Why were you even using a bank in the first place?

I'd be covered but I probably shouldn't keep that much in checking

not that I'd be getting crazy interest in my liquid assets in a money market or savings account

it's kinda funny- the people who meet their standards for no fee's are the ones that wouldn't need to worry about wasteful fees if they were applied- yet the ones that don't probably can't allow all that frivolous spending

I do disagree with this senseless fee though, even though it doesn't apply to me. I already have my savings account with a credit union, maybe this will finally push me to transfer over my checking as well.

I hope the entire fucking banking industry fails. Nationalize that shit and be done with it.

They should make the account managers and decision makers go with the law enforcement officers to evict people from their foreclosed homes. They should have to take their children and explain to them that "this is what daddy does, he takes people's homes away and then sells them for roughly 20% of what they owe, even though the majority of people could pay that 20%."

Fire bomb your local branches and let the mother fuckers burn.

I don't bank with Wells Fargo. I do meet both of their qualifications. Even so, I would be looking for another bank (preferably a credit union), even though the fee wouldn't affect me.

I thought BofA was ATM fees, but I may be mistaken. This new Wells fee seems like more of a hidden fee, so it could slip through.

Checking account fee. They tried to implement it and didn't go through with it.

Or... people should just take advantage of credit unions. Pretty much everyone is eligible for one somewhere. And even if you're far away from a branch most CUs allow you to use another CUs ATM for free, let you use their branch, etc.

So is there a national bank out there that doesn't charge for checking. BofA says you need 1500 for basic checking, but if you do the e-banking, its free. Think I'm going to sign up! I currently use a Credit Union for most my money but when I need checks or access to money in a different state it's nice to have an option. No more wells fargo!

I don't know why anyone who has the ability (relatives, military, employer) would NOT move to a credit union.

I'm a member of State Employees' Credit Union and USAA. Won't ever use a "large" bank again.

I had free checking with Wachovia, but it appears that with the Wells Fargo merge that has gone away.

I will mention something that I think is odd and frustrating. I have my mortgage with Wells Fargo, but I can't pay it using my Wells Fargo checking account. They require that I pay it with a different account (meaning that I have to write my GF a check and she then writes a check from her BofA account). You would think it would be more cost effective for them to just transfer funds from 1 Wells account to another.

I am not trying to set up auto-draft. I don't do auto-draft for anything. But they will not allow me to pay using my Wells Fargo checking account without auto-draft, which seems really stupid.

reading comprehension for the win.

why would you not autodraft your mortgage?

other than the fact you're a gramps and probably keep a ledger still

(i wish they'd let me pay my mortgage on my CC with cashback rewards, then just autodraft the payment from my checking account to pay it off immediately, and make a few extra bucks. but i can see where that would cause a whole fucking slew of problems )

Because I like having control of when my bills are paid. I have 15 days to pay it before a late fee is assessed, and it is the largest bill I pay. If something comes up and I need the cash, I would rather stall the mortgage payment until my next paycheck.

It's not really hard to understand

i have a BOA mortgage, i want to set up auto draft but you can only do that if you have a BOA account. so i have to log on to their site for 28 times 12 more times. sucks

Some people don't like auto-draft, and I can't say I blame them. I don't like the idea of giving a company perpetual permission to take money out of my checking account.

I know someone who had their mortgage auto-drafted twice by accident one month. Suntrust said "Sorry, this will take up to 7 days for us to fix" (even though it was from suntrust checking to a suntrust mortgage). In the meanwhile, they were temporarily out almost $5,500 since that was their mortgage payment.

It isn't really a problem because I typically have a minimum of $2k in my checking account at all times. But even so, I remember what it was like being broke. I just like having full control over my money, I guess it's kind of my thing.

Yeah autodraft is a bad idea. I've definitely had cases where a company did a double draft.

i'd just straight up fucking forget if i didn't auto-draft.

i guess that's a bigger fear for me than getting hit twice.

[Edited on April 17, 2012 at 5:59 PM. Reason : i auto-draft everything.]

The only thing I allow to auto-draft is DirecTV, and that is because it saves me $10 a month and is such a small charge that I don't even notice it. A $900 charge hitting the day after a car accident could put me on the bus to work.

I'll be honest, I am a slow pay motherfucker. I typically don't pay any bills until they call me.

What I meant was, I was looking for some kind of notification that this was a new fee either on the front page or through mail correspondence. I don't feel I should have to go digging to find out about a new fee.

Oh well.
