Why do people pay for this?

There are at least 3 shows about storage unit auctions
3 shows about pawn shops
At least 3 shows about antiquing
2 shows about dancing
4 shows about people trying to sing who mostly can't
There's The Jersey Shore, Texas Women, Big Brother, Survivor, The Bachelor, the woman version of The Bachelor

Seems like the only channels that are making shows that are halfway interesting are the ones you have to pay extra for. The only halfway engaging shows on cable these days are crime procedurals, of which there are about 15.

I'm just a little taken back by how bad...really bad, TV is these days.

I just wish I could buy HBO by itself.

Game of Thrones, Luck, Eastbound and Down (RIP), their On Demand movies/documentaries etc. along with PBS, WRAL, & Fox over the airwaves could easily cover my TV interests. I'd miss Justified and Sons of Anarchy when they're in season, but I suspect I could find them on Hulu or somewhere else as needed. I don't need to watch them the day they air.

a fair amount of the shows listed in the OP aren't cable shows, they're over-the-air shows

and even with that, you're acting as if there are only 5 cable channels that just produce shit show after shit show when there are a ton of channels offering something for everyone

Yeah, I'm sick of all of the copycat shows too. It all started with Deadliest Catch. That was the original, "Hi, I'm XXXXX and this is my career. See how much money I make" show. Then came Ice Road Truckers, then Axe Men, and then that Lobster show. After that, reality tv took off on History, Discovery, TLC, and A&E. At least we still have sports, Family Guy, and South Park to watch.

The History Channel is probably one of the ones that irk me the most. I realize that they probably don't get as much viewership with shows about actual history, but Swamp People? WTF does Swamp People have to do with history?

The only time it seems I can catch shows about history are Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Anyways, cable tv sucks especially having to pay money and still get a commercial every five seconds. Hbo and showtime each have 1 or 2 good shows at any given time that are replayed over and over...

The only reason to have cable is to watch sports...

50% of the reason i got cable this past year was just so that i could watch Jersey Shore live.

Getting into new shows and shows i hadn't known about before was just a bonus.

Storage Wars and Pawn Stars are worth the cost right there.

I agree that Hardcore Pawn is dumb as hell, though. Pawn Stars is about rare finds, interesting artifacts, cars, old currency, guns, and actually interesting things.
