I have a cisco 3550 pwr switch. I know it does prestandard inline poe but was wondering if an update gave it ability to comply with 802.11af. Based on my reading, i think no but could not find anything definate. Im unsure if 802.11af required a hardware change or software chnage from prestandard ( or both)

I started typing a response and then realized you weren't referring to 802.11at. Sorry, I can't answer your question. I'd have to look at various specs to do that, and there's Cisco guys here that probably know the hardware specifically.

For the 3550, this is a hardware limitation. It was designed waaay before 802.3af was ratified.
