My wife has been out of state taking care of her mother since mid November. She'll be gone for another month or so before coming back. And since we home-school our kids right now, she took the kids with her. So she does the schooling in the morning/early afternoon and then helps take care of her mom in the afternoon and evenings giving her mom's husband a break (MIL and her husband were only married about 10 years ago so I dunno if "stepdad" is the right term here after you've already moved out of the house )

Anyways, friends and family are always asking me how I'm doing and always assuming I must be really depressed. But I feel like they are viewing it as someone who had a spouse die or leave them and this is nothing like that. This is temporary, and while I do miss my family, I've been having a blast being here by myself. I get to cook whatever food I want, do whatever I want to do around the house when I want to do it, or be as lazy as I want. But whenever anyone asks me if I'm doing OK I feel like I have to put on a sad face and be all "it's hard but I'm getting through it." Cut to the next scene where I'm jumping on the bed like Kevin in Home Alone

i can't stand ketchup with HFCS, it's all too sweet. Some of the sugar sweetened ketchup is okay, but the no sugar or no sugar added is the best.

i love a carolina style hotdog but there's nothing wrong with ketchup and relish or ketchup and mustard on a hot dog

I grew up preferring miracle whip. Dad liked it so it’s what we kept at the house. As an adult I’ve grown to prefer mayo. But I don’t dislike miracle whip. Also, I posted a few pages back (and a few years ago) that my unpopular opinion was miracle whip > mayo. I no longer stand by that. Like I said, miracle whip is ok. Mayo is better.

I don't really care for watermelon. I think it is mainly the messiness and texture. It tastes okay but usually not enough for me to have it all over my face. Chicken wings on the other hand, well worth it. If the watermelon is diced up it's not really a problem so I'll sometimes eat it that way.

Natural ketchup tastes a bit vinegar-y to me but it's an acceptable substitute when you compare calories to the regular sugar-based ketchup. Speaking of calorie swaps, an entire tostinos-sized cauliflower pizza is something like 670 calories. You can really fatboy it up without doing too much damage.

Not sure if this is unpopular but: in my 30s now, I really don't care about college sports anymore and people who take their college-era fan intensity into later stages of adulthood are missing something in life. I'll still watch... but it's tapered off by about 90%.

Police officers and teachers complain about their jobs too much for people that opted into that line of work. I'm not saying that they shouldn't press on for better pay and working conditions. I'm saying that they knew the job was unsafe or pay was lousy before they took it.
