Oh wait. Wiping my ass with my paycheck would be useful to cleanse the butthole, and burning feces and paper would also be useful to keep warm. Leasing furniture is in fact more useless than those two actions.





Back story: a girlfriend of mine just whined about how her bf won't leave her alone because she doesn't save money from every paycheck. She makes about $1000/mo so I can see why she might not save... She JUST sent me a text message about how she's putting me down as a reference to lease a set of living room furniture for [wait for it] $140/mo. I tried not to go ape-shit on her about what a terrible idea that was and how she could outfit her entire apartment for little to NO money off CL but she won't have it.

MY GOD. She is trying to get a new car. Imagine what $140 would do a month for a new car payment?!!?

AND she told me that they needed something they could pay for every month to build up their credit. *facepalm* I told her to open up a SMALL line of credit, BUY A COUCH and pay for it monthly. You can get a couch for LESS THAN HALF of the $2520 that they will eventually spend on their lease. And then she can get the rest off of CL (she said that used furniture creeps them out but I figure she mostly mean the couch because you can clean wood and glass for the side tables and coffee table). I'm dying inside right now.

My parents started out DIRT poor, I mean DIRT poor and 80% of the furniture in our house was free or cheap that they scrounged up at yard sales/estate sales/flea markets and fixed up. Hell, I have extra furniture they can have. My heart is just breaking because I know she doesn't have credit. I know she's not that smart with money. I know companies will lease furniture to put in temporary housing they may have to get for employees staying in remote locations for extended periods of time.

Outside of this, ive never heard of furniture leasing.

i own a number of cheap rental properties (mobile homes)

once, this guy was late with the rent and i couldn't get up with him. i rode over there to try to see what was up.

he wasn't home, but i did meet a guy from aaron's there who happened to show up at the same time.

the dumb motherfucker was renting a laptop and a MATTRESS from aaron's...and was way past due.

Even buying new furniture, they could have purchased an entire living room set NEW on a credit card for less than 1/2 what they spent.

I can understand the no-craigslist policy on couches/chairs/upholstered anything.
But shit, we bought our leather sofa brand new for $450.

Most all the rest of our furniture came from GoodWill, and we refurbished it ourselves for pennies. Sanding, repainting, new hardware, got us really nice stuff for less than 10% the cost of new.

Moral of the story: most people are lazy and suckers. This is the basis of our economy.
