Greenville, N.C. — The Pitt County Sheriff Office is searching for a 6-day-old boy who was allegedly abducted Monday by his mother.

An Amber Alert was issued for Kayden Chavis around 5:15 p.m. after the Department of Social Services reported him missing.

A Pitt County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the baby's mother, 30-year-old Jessica Chavis, has a history of mental illness and that the child might be in danger.

Kayden Chavis has black hair and brown eyes, is about 20 inches long and weighs 6 pounds.

Jessica Chavis is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 130 pounds, with black hair and black eyes.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jessica or Kayden Chavis is asked to call the sheriff's office at 252-830-4141.
