i live basically on the flight path from the White House to Andrews AFB and noticed one of the presidential Sikorskys flying solo last night in the direction of Andrews right around 10PM. Weird though, because they usually fly three of them with two as decoys when the President travels to Andrews. Maybe it had already dropped him off or was ferrying staff.

Pretty badass that air force one turned off all its lights and landed blindly in the dark sonobody could see them. they also did a quick descent so that is some pretty badass pilotry.

would've been an epic slfpwn if they crashed because they couldn't see and were in such a rush.

Bush campaigned and won re-election for his failure to keep us safe safe on 9-11 in 2004.

Obama is campaigning on his success on getting bin Laden, which Bush failed to do.

You can argue that, but the Bush administration laid the ground work and got things started that eventually led to the capture of Bin Laden.

Obama just got lucky and happened to be the one in the office when all that intel and work paid off.

Honestly I'd say both administrations had around an equal role in the eventual capture.

Honestly, you're pretty God-damned dumb.

C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden

By MARK MAZZETTI
Published: July 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, July 3 — The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone for the agency, which formed the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring Mr. bin Laden to justice "dead or alive.""

^^And what the fuck does that video have to do with anything!?!? That was from 2002... and Bush was right that Bin Laden was "running and hiding in a cave somewhere."

Without getting too much into soap box.... The president in office was unbelievably irrelevant in "getting" bin Laden. Saying Obama got him is like saying Bill Clinton was responsible for the internet boom of the 90's. There was an amazing amount of intelligence collection that went on for YEARS that finally paid off. (if you want to call it that) Obama did exactly what Bush (or fucking Kennedy) would have done. That is, get the post mission report, (that's already passed through 50 or more people) and then address the nation.

Now... Who FDT!?!?

Bullshit. President Obama was the one who returned our focus on getting bin Laden and he did it AFTER Bush gave up.

Fuck it [soap box]

how did he "return our focus"?? He didn't increase defense spending significantly, he certainly didn't make an offensive movement in the middle east or west asia.

6 months after over 2500 innocent Americans died at bin Laden's hands, Bush says "who cares". Really. Who the fuck cares if an international terrorist doesn't pay for the crimes he committed. Big deal.

^I feel like you should watch that video again. He talks about not focusing on one man, who's on the run, hiding in a cave somewhere; vice focusing on a whole organization.

You're clearly trolling ... Guess you got me.

"It turns out that June 2, 2009, was an even busier day for President Obama than we thought.

We knew that on that day, Obama held a health care meeting with congressional Democrats, nominated John McHugh to be Army secretary, and signed the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission. That night, he took off to begin a Middle East trip in Saudi Arabia.

Now we learn that, somewhere in the middle of all that, Obama signed the order that led to the Sunday raid that killed 9/11 organizer Osama bin Laden.

According to a White House timeline, Obama signed a memo on June 2, 2009, telling CIA Director Leon Panetta that, "in order to ensure that we have expanded every effort, I direct you to provide me within 30 days a detailed operation plan for locating and bringing to justice Osama bin Laden.""

not saying cnn is right but they said they literally turned all the devices off and flew in blind with no technology since any use or lights would make them visible.

I think it's pretty clear that before Obama got in office, a fairly large criticism was that he couldn't handle the tough decisions, and was too soft. Even Hillary criticized him for it...remember the 3 am call thing?

If you look at some of the details, Biden actually recommended against the raid, because we weren't sure enough. Obama did it anyway, and he would have taken the fall if anything went wrong. People don't blame the soldiers for the failed attempt to rescue the hostages under Carter. They blame Carter.

You can't say it doesn't matter which President is in power, we'll get the same result either way, and then ever get to criticize an opponent again for how they handle the "War on Terror," or anything similar. Either his decisions matter and he can take credit for them, or they don't.
