Why does it matter that she's 26 though?

So this depicts a child involved in a sexual act with an adult. So this is child pornography.

8 qualifies as too fucking old.

The US is one of the few countries that makes such a big deal about breast feeding. I'm shocked as to how many of my friends think it's "gross" and/or shouldn't be done in public. Yes, boobs are fabulous and can be sexually arousing, but that's not their only purpose. I plan on breastfeeding, and I will do it in public.

I have no problem with attachment parenting. Think it's a good thing. Probably won't personally breastfeed my kid after 1 year (and definitely not a three year old), but I don't judge those who do.

I do judge the ones that choose not to breast feed, or at least put breast milk in a bottle to bottle feed. (unless there is a health reason).

^^^^ My wife is a big breast feeding advocate (our son is almost 2 and still nursing). She went to a lunch with some nursing moms at her company a while ago. One mom told the group her husband hated it and found it gross, and made her leave the room whenever she nursed. If they had company over he would ask her to go upstairs to nurse in private.

^^^I think it's right at the point. Anywhere else and this article wouldn't have been published because no one would care. In the US though, boobs are seen primarily as sexual objects, the fact that children need them for nourishment is over looked by way too many people.

And we practice some of the tenants of attachment parents. So far it seems to have paid off.

Eh, I've worked with a lot of women that soon after they return from maternity leave, they've given up on pumping. Apparently it's uncomfortable, time consuming, there isn't really any place to store it since assholes stuff our communal fridge full of food they never eat and no one cleans it, and they get grief from supervisors for popping in and out of their desk all day. So I can understand why they decide it's not worth the effort in the end.

^I'm mainly referring to breast feeding at all. And usually by the time they're back from leave, it's been 2-3 months. I think studies are pretty clear that breastfeeding has definitely benefits. And I know it's work, but to me, anything that gives my kids a leg up health-wise is "worth it in the end."

I'm not as judgmental as I sound. I know it's not going to work out or be feasible for everyone. I just think if you can, you should try.

My kid will be lucky to be breast fed, and I damn sure will not be co-sleeping.

And finally, the only benefit I see about strapping a child to me is if they're little and I need to multitask.

But, like I commented to someone who posted this on FB, this seems to be all about the shock value. If it were truly advocating for attachment parenting, they wouldn't have her striking a pose and placing the toddler in a very awkward position where it looked like he was all OH HEY, FOOD

Strapping a child to you is also very beneficial for colicky babies. Very beneficial indeed.

I also loathe the tag line. I loathe mommy wars. I loathe war on women.

Yeah I never understood the reasoning. I can understand not wanting to past a certain age, but to be uncomfortable with your wife nursing an infant in your own home seems wrong.

My tits are smaller and fed our son just fine. And although he's three, he probably only nurses once, maybe twice, a day.

My wife tried her damnedest to get our son to latch on and couldn't get it to work. Breast feeding and pumping was a lot tougher on her than I ever imagined it would be. I watched her cry through it multiple times due to the pain and stress. It doesn't come easy for all. I assume you would consider this a health reason though.

Reminds me of this sketch from Little Britain:

http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/5be57cfaff/meeting-the-parents-from-littlebritainfan

To be serious, I'd generally say it's up to the mom and the kid (and yes a lot of kids will wean themselves and start refusing mom-milk). But, there does come a point where the bonding experience and closeness is likely heavily outweighed by the "uhhh" factor. Yes it does matter if your kid is going to get beat up because you're still breast feeding him at 8 if you value their social development more than you desire to prolong an dependent early child-hood state because you value the bonding past when it might have any continued benefit for the child.

I have no place trying to claim exactly where that is - I'm not a mom. I couldn't really say that 3 or 4 is too old because I don't know the kid, the mom, or the situation. The worldwide average is 4 or so, but I imagine some of that has to do with developing countries and waterborn diseases being more hazardous than social stigma. I am pretty comfortable saying 8 is too old considering adrenarche can start between 6 and 10 years old (the pre-pruberty developmenal stage in which primary sexual characteristics and sometimes curiosiy/interest in the same/opposite sex.) I would have reservations to say the least about my kid still breast-feeding when they were getting ready to go to kindergarten; part of that would be my concern that they might not be properly prepared to spend all day in school if they still haven't been weened.

No. As long as you breastfeed your body will continue to make milk. It does regulate itself and may taper off once the newborn phase is over, and once you stop it dries up. Not sure how long til it does though (prolly varies). I stopped a month ago, and I can still squeeze a little out.

As a new mother, do you think it's shitty to breastfeed until the kid is 3+ (I think we can all agree that 6 y/o is insane)

Yeah I have a feeling that she's short and there's no real visual context in the picture to really help gauge the overall scale (tree, trash can, etc).
