^wont come close to those numbers.

It will be a bad political pick imo. Romney needs to be hammering Obama on spending and the economy and HIS record. Instead he is spending time dealing with Bain. If he picks Rice he will have to spend time defending Bain and the Bush Admin. I agree she is very qualified but the electorate isnt.

Black people hate Romney because he is basically the whitest mother fucker who has ever lived. He's even a fucking Mormon. Have you ever seen a non-white Mormon?

Blacks have voted democrat at a 90+ rate for close to 20 years now.

If Romney got it to 80/20, that would be an earth-shattering shift in American politics.

And considering blacks are like 13% of the population, and under represented in the electorate on top of that, even if he got 20%, that's like 1-2% of the overall vote. No one, not even Obama, cares about blacks that much.

Blacks make up greater than 10% of the electorate (and have since 1992); 20% of the black vote is at least 2% of the overall vote. I guarantee both Romney and Obama care about 2% of the overall vote (though, as Al Gore would point out, where those votes are is just as important as what those votes are (if not more)).

But, yeah, there's no fucking way Romney actually wins 20% of the black vote.

Romney's best hope is a low overall voter turnout. He's not really trying to win anyone over so much as he's sowing doubt about Obama in an effort to keep the undecideds, independents, non-partisans, the casually political, etc. from even showing up.

If you want to win votes, the Hispanics are where it's at. Keep an eye out for George P. Bush.

actually romneys best hope is obama continuing to be obama.

you know, raising less money than romney even though hes conducting fundraisers overseas while flying on the taxpayers dime.

but i know this is all okay to you folks because romney is an evil corporatist type.

obama is the one who will be facing low voter turnout since hes managed to completely alienate any of his serious (originally well intentioned) supporters. all that remains are the "anyone but romneybush" dregs so well represented here.

Guys, you could sum up Romney's entire campaign up to this point with "I'm rubber, you're glue". It's literally been one of the most disjointed and poorly executed Presidential campaigns in modern history. It doesn't matter how much money he has if he doesn't have a goddamn clue what he's doing with it. His response to the Bain attacks have been pathetic and it's almost mind boggling that he wasn't ready for them. Ditto for his tax records. He's been battered so badly that he's asking for Obama to apologize for expressing facts. You would think a guy who's been running for President for a decade would be better than this, but I guess in this case, practice does not make perfect.

Compare/contrast these two ads for a microcosm of the whole thing. First Obama releases this, one of the most effective political attack ads I've ever seen,

http://youtu.be/Ud3mMj0AZZk

Romney's follow up is this horrible knock off,

Actually it was pulled because the Romney campaign didn't secure the rights to commercialize the Al Green song Obama was singing in the background. You couldn't script a better example to show the incompetence of his campaign.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/16/mitt-romney-bain_n_1677259.html

WASHINGTON -- Add another document to the pile, this one from California's secretary of state.

In a filing dated July 21, 1999, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was listed as a "general partner" for Bain Capital Partners, a California Limited Partnership. Romney's signature is on the document declaring that he certified "that the statements contained in this document are true and correct to my own knowledge. I declare that I am the person who is executing this instrument, which execution is my act and deed."

Romney remained on record as one of four general partners until the state was notified of his resignation on June 17, 2003.

Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul disputed these latest findings. "Mitt Romney had no involvement in management or investment decisions at Bain Capital after February 1999, as has been confirmed by Bain Capital, multiple independent fact checkers and a unanimous finding of fact by the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission," Saul wrote The Huffington Post via email. "In 2003, Mitt Romney was Governor and working full time for the people of Massachusetts, who can also verify that he was in fact Governor at the time and was no longer working at Bain Capital."

But even during his successful 2002 run for governor, Mitt Romney visited his supposedly former company at least once, according to a senior member of his campaign staff. The staffer recalled one such visit on the way to a campaign event, but wasn't told why it was made. The stop lasted 15 minutes. "He had many donors and volunteers there, so I assume it was for campaign and not Bain business," the staffer told HuffPost. "It was too fast for meetings or anything."

The staffer's account and the California document are among the latest evidence that suggests Romney's involvement with Bain extended beyond February 1999, when he claims to have retired from the private equity firm. State documents, SEC filings and his own recently unearthed testimony suggest that Romney continued to do business on behalf of Bain for several years after 1999.

At issue is whether Romney lied to federal authorities in August 2011 as part of the financial disclosure process. Romney asserted that he had "retired from Bain Capital on February 11, 1999 to head the Salt Lake Organizing Committee [for the 2002 Winter Olympics]. Since February 11, 1999, Mr. Romney has not had any active role with any Bain Capital entity and has not been involved in the operations of any Bain Capital entity in any way."

In his testimony before the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission, which was charged with settling a dispute over his residency, Romney testified under oath in June 2002, that he sat on the board of the LifeLike Co., a dollmaker that was a Bain investment during the period.

Previously reported documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Romney was listed as the CEO, chairman and president of the company after 1999. In disclosures in Massachusetts, Romney stated that he took a six-figure salary from Bain. He also attended board meetings for at least two Bain-affiliated companies.

A corporate document filed with Massachusetts listed Romney as one of two managing members of Bain Capital Investors, LLC, after he was elected governor in 2003. As a managing member, he was "authorized to execute, acknowledge, deliver and record any recordable instrument purporting to affect an interest in real property, whether to be recorded with a Registry of Deeds or with a District Office of the Land Court."

What? They booed his remarks on Obamacare, and also clapped and cheered for other parts (Namely education policy) and even gave him a standing ovation at the end. It was Romney who blamed their booing on "Just wanting free stuff" which isn't at all tapping into welfare queen stereotypes of blacks...

Now you're just tapping into another stereotype, the "black people just call people racist as an excuse for their personal indiscretion" one that conservatives apply to literally every accusation of racism ever.

^^i dont understand why you people absolutely refuse to google. id figure the liberals on this board would be all over this just because romney simultaneously complains about the "huge disparity" in fundraising between him and obama when hes actually leading him. seems like fodder you would have seized upon.

apparently youre to lazy to even research practical attacks on the other side. just keep droning the same robotic chorus that you receive from the DNC mothership i suppose. right now orders say bain capital right? dog strapped to roof? which is it?

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/obama-overseas-fundraisers-china-switzerland-349566

just to clarify, it appears romney will be fundraising in israel, which isnt really surprising, so shame on both of them.

"To Rush Limbaugh, it can't be a coincidence. The villain in the new Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises," is named "Bane." The name of Mitt Romney's old private-equity firm? Bain Capital.

"Do you think that it is accidental that the name of the really vicious fire breathing four eyed whatever it is villain in this movie is named Bain [sic]?" Limbaugh asked on his radio show today, according to a transcript of the audio on his show's website.

But the character Bane first appeared in Batman comics in 1993. The Bane character in "The Dark Knight Rises" was chosen in early 2011.

Limbaugh continued, questioning whether or not the villain would influence voters at all.

This movie, the audience is gonna be huge. A lot of people are gonna see the movie, and it's a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd, and they're gonna hear Bane in the movie and they're gonna associate Bain. The thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie, "Oh, yeah, I know who that is." (laughing) There are some people who think it'll work. Others think you're really underestimating the American people to think that will work.

Conservatives have been questioning "how long it will take" the Obama campaign to use the homonyms to attack Romney. Ironically, comic book writer Chuck Dixon, who created the Bane character, worried about this exact scenario on a message board Monday, according to the Washington Times.

Quote :
"The Romney campaign says he has released as many returns as candidate John Kerry did in 2004, and cites Teresa Heinz Kerry’s refusal to release any of her tax returns. Neither is an apt comparison. John Kerry actually released returns from 1999 through 2003, and also released tax returns during his Senate runs. As for Teresa Heinz, Romney isn’t the wealthy spouse of a candidate, but the candidate himself. In 2008, John McCain released two years of returns, but he had been filling out financial disclosure forms for decades as a senator. Romney protests that he is not legally obliged to release any tax returns. Of course not. He is no longer in the realm of the private sector, though, where he can comply with the letter of the law with the Securities and Exchange Commission and leave it at that. Perceptions matter."

That's a good strategy (and ive been wondering why Romney hasn't brought it up-- maybe he's afraid Obama will actually release his college records?), but what Obama did as a college student, when he's openly admitted to doing coke and other drugs, and being lost in general, isn't as relevant as meaningful as Romney's financial situation over the past few years.

Wouldn't it make Romney a hypocrite to decry tax increases on his cohorts, if it turns out he pays a lower rate than the middle class?

What would it say about respect for American laws if he's been using off-shore accounts to dodge taxes? Doesn't the right whine about undocumented workers don't deserve other rights if they break our laws to be here in the first place?

Obama's been pretty corporatist so far, but Romney is sure to take this to another level.

He has no ability to understand the middle class -- the vast majority of americans-- and his presidency would most likely reflect this ignorance.

^^ that's because most candidates don't hate America as much as Romney and hide their money off shores, refusing to invest it domestically.

I think Obama's finance guy was caught under-reporting (aka cheating) on his taxes after a release.

It's likely Romney has some unsavory things in his taxes, as do most filthy rich people.

Candidate tax returns were not relevant in the public spotlight until the Occupy movement happened. Now its a big deal. If you don't understand Occupy you won't understand why Mitt Romney revealing his tax returns is important.

To me his reluctance to reveal them also highlights a lack of character in Mr Romney. But Ann Romney was being truthful when she said releasing more returns would be dangerous.
