For those of you that have graduated from NCSU, is your Major GPA listed on the Official Transcript that you have to buy from the university. On the unofficial transcript the Major GPA is not listed, just the Cumulative GPA. I also purchased an official transcript from the university, and only the cumulative GPA is listed. But I heard that once you graduate and purchase an official transcript, it will list both the cumulative GPA and the Major GPA. So, is this true?? (I am assuming the reason why only my cumulative GPA is on the official transcript and not my Major GPA is because I have not graduated yet). I know some of you have graduated a while back, but for those of you that have graduated within the past year or two, I would appreciate your feedback.

Also how important is Major GPA to employers that hire engineers? I know that most engineering companies have a 3.0 GPA requirement, and anyone with a GPA below that will probably not get an interview. But I am worried that I might graduate with a decent cumulative GPA (3.2-3.3), but my Major GPA will probably be like a (2.8-2.9). Is this a big deal, especially if both GPA's are listed on the official transcript?

Thanks in advance.

I graduated last year and have my official e-transcript that I bought and it does not indicate the Major GPA

At the bottom it has Cum GPA; Cum Totals, GPA Hours
Degree, Confer Date, Degree Honors and Plan

Though not an engineer, I've never applied for a job, or seen a job where one of the application requirements was one's major GPA. Asking for the GPA at all seems like it's becoming rarer and rarer.

Plan : Public Administration-MR Major
Session : Regular Academic Session
PA 532 Contract Neg & Med 3.00 3.00 A 12.000
PA 536 Mgt Nonprofit Org 3.00 3.00 A 12.000
PA 546 Sem Progr Evaluat 3.00 3.00 A 12.000

I found term GPAs but couldn't find a major GPA on my transcript, although it might be that grad school is diff.

Companies only give a SLIGHT shit about your cumulative GPA, and grades on the whole don't really mean jack shit. I graduated from NCSU with a perfect major GPA in EE/CPE and my cumulative in my last 60 credit hours was also perfect. I didn't really give a shit my first few years, however, so I graduated with a 3.2. Not a bad GPA by any means, but definitely not competitive for engineering jobs and especially engineering jobs at bigger companies like Cisco. I thought when I graduated that companies would look at my grades and look at me as if I was a solid investment. That was anything but the case. I never did any co-ops or internships and that hurt me a LOT when it came to job searching because I had no experience in spite of my performance in the classroom. I got turned down for every job I applied to at Cisco and other big companies and I never got my foot in the door at IBM despite having a very strong software background, a portfolio, and having an in by knowing one of the recruiters personally. Many of my friends who graduated with C averages had no problem getting in with these companies because a lot of them did co-ops with them. I was able to get into a Ivy League for graduate school (Columbia), but unfortunately this didn't mean shit on the job front. Experience is what you need, son. BTW: Your major GPA is NOT in fact listed on your official transcript.

GPAs only matter when they're low.

Transcripts don't list major GPA. You'll have to calculate it yourself.

Agree, internships, CO-OPs, i didnt do them....if I had to do college all over again I would....although I graduated a long time ago when the economy was good (got a job), now employers have tons of people with tons of experience to select from in the market now. Most want someone to hit the ground running and having experience shows that they maybe can. If it is just HS/college jobs it not related to your major will be harder to even beat out those your graduating with for those jobs. I dont think GPA maters as much for most job, experience, experience, experience does.

I'm not sure if the major GPA is listed on your transcript, however if you would like to find out what it is without calculating it you can find it listed on your degree audit on epack.

damn Supplanter you really got a 4.0 in MPA? that's pretty impressive. I could never really get everything Swiss wanted, and Coe's budgeting midterm was a complete mystery compared to the final. I also did the MIS first and was pretty checked out by the time I finished it all plus work but impressive for real.
