That picture doesn't really give enough to ID with certainty (at least not for me), but judging by what seems like a very broad yellow stripe behind the eye, I would say it's a yellowbelly slider. Common and native to NC. Although the individual you posted looks like it's a little bit off, it has a bit more yellow than I would consider typical. 5/13/2012 4:25:25 PM

I got him in Florida from a crazy old lady on the side of the road. She had a tank in her van with hundreds of tiny turtles in it. He's about 3 years old now. 5/13/2012 5:23:40 PM
