So far I've read rumors he is:

In Sweden visiting his girlfriend who is giving birth
Dead from a stroke
Been overthrown in a coup
Just 'head down' busy working

Plus Russia has hinted at an important yet mysterious announcement any day with short notice.

He's back. Probably caught a small cold from all that barechested bear wrestling in Siberia.

I bet Putin doesn't even last a year in Syria. Building new bases is expensive, they are slowly going broke, and most experts I've read have claimed Russia's military buildup the past few years has been big on shiny things that go on the frontline and kinda short on all the equipment required to resupply/logistics/etc

And I don't see how it makes Obama look weak. When Russia starts to fold, we'll be in a pretty good position to negotiate Assad out and really turn up the campaign among our coalition. And that's the point: We've been bombing in Syria and Iraq for about a year now, we have thousands of Soldiers/CIA in the area, we've already dropped like 10x as many bombs as Putin, we have a dozen bases and two naval fleets within striking distance of Syria while Putin is going to struggle to sustain one.

How do we forget all of that so quickly?

This is just another example of Obama playing a multi-dimensional long game and the press falling for the bluffs and stunts of Putin.

^^ it happened in 1988, so that's the important date, not that the article was published in 2009. most people don't know about this picture and that it allegedly has putin in it!

it is interesting that the photographer says it was putin, but moscow denies it.

he can't ally himself with nato in isis while at the same time essentially fighting against them in the rest of syria and ukraine. theres no official agreement on how to ally against isis and turkey probably strategically chose to shoot this plane down as it was going to bomb the rebels they are supporting against assad. What a mess!

taking his gloves off

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34982951

Quote :
"Russia's defence ministry has accused the family of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of being directly involved in the trade of petroleum with the Islamic State group.

Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov said Turkey was the biggest buyer of "stolen" oil from Syria and Iraq.

Mr Erdogan said Russia had no right to "slander" Turkey with such claims.

Russia and Turkey have been locked in an angry dispute since Turkey shot down a Russian jet last month.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had already accused Ankara of downing the plane on its Syrian border to protect oil supply lines.

"According to available information, the highest level of the political leadership of the country, President Erdogan and his family, are involved in this criminal business," Mr Antonov told journalists in Moscow.

"The Turkish leadership has demonstrated extreme cynicism. Look at what they are doing!" he said.

"They have invaded the territory of another country and are brazenly plundering it."

The Russian defence ministry does not usually invite foreign journalists to its media briefings on Syria. But on Wednesday it made an exception.

It had a message it wanted the whole world to hear: that the faces of Turkey's leaders, including President Erdogan, were "smeared with stolen oil".

Invited journalists and military attaches were shown satellite images and grainy video footage, purporting to show tanker trucks with oil crossing from IS-held territory into Turkey.

But, from what I could tell, no evidence was presented to implicate the Turkish president. He has accused Russia of slander.

After the shooting down of the Russian bomber by Turkey last week, the war of words continues between Moscow and Ankara.

Listening to the military officials at this briefing, you could hear the anger in their voices. Their strong language reflects their president's conviction that Turkey has "stabbed Russia in the back".

The defence ministry cited satellite images that it said showed oil tankers travelling from IS-held territory to Turkey.

The trucks, it said, travelled to three locations - including refineries - in Turkey and some was then moved on to a third country.

Russia said it was producing only "part of the evidence" for now and did not provide direct proof of their claim that Mr Erdogan and family were involved.

Responding to the Russian allegations, Mr Erdogan said "no one has a right to engage in slander against Turkey by saying that Turkey is buying oil from Daesh [IS]".

He repeated a promise to resign if the claims were proven true.

US officials have previously said they have information suggesting Turkish "middlemen" were involved in the illegal IS oil trade.

The Turkish authorities have made commitments to tackle smuggling on their territory.

Despite the tensions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said he is prepared to meet Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu at a conference in the Serbian capital Belgrade this week.

Mr Lavrov said he was willing to "hear what Mr Cavusoglu has to say", in comments broadcast on the Rossiya 24 news channel.

It would be the first time the men have met since the downing of the jet.

Turkey said the Russian SU-24 fighter plane intruded into its airspace and ignored repeated warnings to leave.

Funeral ceremonies have been taking place for Oleg Peshkov, the plane's pilot who Russia said was shot dead after parachuting from the jet.

Russia and Turkey have important economic ties, and in the wake of the incident Moscow imposed visa requirements for Turkish visitors, and placed restrictions on trade with Ankara."

So the Islamic State are smuggling oil into Turkey and are delivering it to Batman.

Holiday spirit: 12yo girl asks Putin for husky puppy for New Year…and gets it!

Quote :
" A 12-year-old’s dreams came true when she received a puppy as a New Year’s present from Russia’s president, after having sent him a letter.

In the true holiday spirit, Olga Maruchshenko, from a small town in Siberia, got the present of a lifetime from Vladimir Putin. He wasn’t there in person, but ordered the head of the Republic of Khakassia, where the girl lives with her family, to give Olga a husky puppy after reading the girl’s letter.

“My mom knows that I wrote to you, but she doesn’t believe that you will read my letter. Even so, I hope and I believe that you will read it,” Olga wrote.

The family recently moved to Siberia from Kazakhstan and live on a tight budget, renting a flat.

Olga explained that she dreamed of getting a blue-eyed husky, but that it was a gift that her parents could not afford.

“I promise to take good care of the puppy because it’s my big dream - to own a husky. And I promise to study hard,” the lucky girl wrote in the letter that touched the president’s heart.

Olga’s younger sister also received a present from Putin. "

Dude looks pretty credible to me

President Putin 'probably' approved Litvinenko murder

Remember Litvinenko, the fierce Putin-critic and ex-KGB agent who was killed in the first nuclear terrorism attack on the streets of London in 2006? Yeah, Putin most probably ordered it.

Watch the first video (2 min) in the link for a brief overview of the case.

And also watch this neat 2 min video--esp. if you are a science geek--to see how water tight the case against the 2 ex-KGB agents he met in the London restaurant where he was poisoned by polonium is:

Make sure to watch the starred videos... best videos I have seen all week!

************

A week ago there was the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The key event of the International Economic Forum was a plenary session. Participating, in addition to the Russian Leader, were the Prime Minister of India and the President of Moldova.

The "interrogator" -- in front of 4,000 attendees representing a capital of $11 trillion -- was none other than Megyn Kelly. Topics included: Alleged Russian interference in US elections, Paris Climate Agreement, Syria's use of chemical weapons, Russian economy, and some more.

The next day, she interviewed Putin 1-on-1. Most of this was basically her trying to get him to admit that he interfered in the elections.

This is the full event (2.5 hrs), with the plenary session starting just after 1:09:00:

This is just 20 minutes of that plenary session, showing just the grilling that Kelly did of Putin and him demolishing her on the world stage. He was very frank, and funny too, making thousands laugh multiple times.

And here is the 1-on-1 interview (20 min), with Putin slaying Megyn again. He completely owned that interview and her!
