I think it's definitely possible in any situation. However, if you do have sex and then try to go back to just being friends, I have never witnessed that being successful without the relationship escalating again. I see a lot of people buying into it, but very few examples of it actually remaining platonic after sex.

There are only a couple of females that I've spend a significant amount of time with that I haven't done something with. Notable exceptions being girlfriends/wives of friends.

The biggest drivers in attraction are proximity and amount of time spent together. Hang out with somebody enough and something is going to happen unless one of you is a hideous chud.
