...defeat the LA Galaxy 2-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park and advance to the 4th round of the US Open Cup.
Admittedly, I didn't attend, and don't follow closely: I assume it was their scrubs? i know Beckham wasn't there.

(why not? maybe use as an MLS thread? WTF is a Railhawk?)

Was at the Open Cup match in Wilmington in '03 when the Hammerheads beat the Dallas Burn first team (Kreis, etc.) 4-1. It was pretty awesome.

This isn't the first time the RailHawks have beaten a MLS side in the USOC though. I remember when they beat the Chicago Fire, a team that traditionally takes USOC very seriously and I think they were playing a good number of regular starters, in the inaugural season.

Anyways, 7 MLS teams lost yesterday. RailHawks play Chivas USA next.

I was sitting behind the goal where all the goals were score and the last fifteen minutes or so were awesome. There was a palpable excitement in the crowd that last little bit and the four minutes of stoppage time were nigh unbearable.

All in all a pretty fun evening. The weather held, there was a nice breeze so the humidity didnt get cloying, and we came out with a win. Bring on Chivas!

Sad indeed, but still a very fun season:
Quarterfinals in US Open cup
Beat LA Galaxy and Chivas USA
Won or Tied in 5 out of the last 6 games in the last 10 minutes of the game

If Ty Shipaline did not get hurt, we would have won the league
Fall season starts in August, but Ty will still be out.
Oh, and hello NY Cosmos!

The upper deck looks great. Attendance was up this season, and hopefully they can at least maintain, since the south end zone area is still under advertisement tarps. It is bull shit, because the security people won't even let people stand at the walkway on the south end zone. Maybe it is because they are blocking the ads, or maybe (in my case) people are getting drunk and harassing the goalie too much

Yup, Fall season starts this Saturday.

Railhawks beat Puebla FC yesterday 2-1, which now makes their home unbeaten streak 24 games.

Some fun facts about their 24-game unbeaten streak:
Record: 22-0-2
Outscored opponents: 54-16
Includes 5 wins over D1 teams: LA Galaxy (2), Chivas USA (2), Puebla FC (1)
Last team to beat the Railhawks: MLS team Vancouver Whitecaps, 0-3 loss on 2/24/13 (club friendly)
Bonus Fact: Since joining NASL in 2011, home record is 42-7-8

Also, 8 of the 24 games required a game winning/tying goal in the 85th minute or later:
1-0, a.e.t., vs LA Galaxy - 105' goal
1-1, p.3-2, vs Chivas USA - won on PK's
2-1, vs San Antonio Scorpions - 85' goal
2-2, vs Tampa Bay Rowdies - 90' goal
1-1, vs Atlanta Silverbacks - 89' goal
3-2, vs Minnesota United - 87' & 88' goals
3-1, a.e.t., vs Chivas USA - 92' & 98' goals
2-1, vs Tampa Bay Rowdies - 90+2' & 90+5' goals

Soccer in the Triangle is back! and after 2 weeks, the Carolina Railhawks are back to #1 in the league standings.

This year, NASL welcomes another new team: Jacksonville Armada

2015 Spring HOME Schedule:
W 3-1 vs Ottawa Fury
T 1-1 vs FC Edmonton (away)
Sat. Apr. 18 Carolina RailHawks vs Atlanta Silverbacks 7:30PM (Family Night & concert)
Sat. May 2 Carolina RailHawks vs Tampa Bay Rowdies 7:30PM (Cinco De Mayo festival)
Sat. May 16 Carolina RailHawks vs New York Cosmos 7:30PM
Sat. June 6 Carolina RailHawks vs Minnesota United FC 7:30PM (Wine Festival)

US Open Cup starts April 25th, but the Railhawks have a Bye until round 3 (May 27th). Railhawks have made the semifinals the last 2 years, beating 4 MLS teams over that time.

Awesome that we tied with West Ham - http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/soccer/carolina-railhawks/article89265992.html

I was at the Revolution game a month back that was also delayed by lightning.

Sounds like it was a great crowd (largest ever) and the Bravo signing is great!

Was a great crowd. Fun to see some really high caliber players on the field with the Railhawks. Seemed to go quite well. Hopefully word gets around some of the bigger leagues and we can get more teams over here for visits.

on the flip side I like the simpler name of North Carolina FC and would welcome an MLS team in this area with open arms. Would certainly invest in a season ticket or a few matches a year at the very least.

I saw that mentioned somewhere too, but the permit for a downtown stadium is a no go. I'm a fan of keeping them where they are at. It isn't a bad location. They could actually add an exit ramp straight out of the parking lot and onto I-40 if they wanted to. Being right off of 40 makes it easy for people from Chapel Hill, Durham, Clayton, Garner, Holly Springs, Apex, etc to get to the games quickly.

Would be awesome to see Zlatan, Rooney, and Ronaldo come play in Raleigh in 2020. Not sure how the MLS works but I assume we will be in a similar division as the New York, DC, and Toronto teams at least?
