they did that with the g5 and it was total shit.

not even close - those pcie ssds are DRAM fronted (fusion io)

I'll agree a cylinder isn't a good shape for space efficiency, but I bet it has a lot to do with thermal efficiency as evacuating a cylinder is much easier than a rectangular prism.

I just wanted to say that I broke down and bought the 15" Macbook Pro Retina..

It is AMAZING. I got a refurbished one from apple and it looks brand new. You would never know it wasn't brand new. It is the fastest computer I've ever owned...

Yo are there any good software distribution tools that are not ARD? Anyone used CentrifyDC?

i don't know if this is the best thread, but I am considering purchasing my first mac (probably an iMac), how hard is the transition from Windows. Does Windows 8 run well enough on an iMac to do some basic Autocad and Lightroom work? The wife likes macs but all my software is WIndows and I like Windows 8 a lot, I've only used a Mac a couple times. She needs to do Photoshop but I think the iMac can handle what she needs.

I did the switch 2 years ago. It's not that big of a switch. Well, the first 2 months I was sorta let down. Steve Jobs was a genius marketer. The iMac is a great computer, but it's still a computer.

When I first got it I was frustrated that I couldn't customize the settings like a Windows PC. Hell, I can't even remember exactly what I wanted to do... But I'm really happy that I made the switch.

One thing I will warn you is that Outlook fucking sucks for Mac. I was told it's Microsoft's fault. They don't want to give everything to the Mac user.

If you're getting an iMac, I highly suggest you get the 27", so you can add RAM.

^^

Entourage was a piece of shit email client--- the worst I've ever used. Outlook 2011, however, is pretty awesome, and I have very few complaints about it. That said, I haven't used the windows version in many years, so I may not even know what I'm missing.

However, the efficacy of Outlook is only important in the context of corporate email/calendaring. If this is a personal machine, there are many other options that slay Outlook and are specifically geared towards personal use.

I probably wouldn't even load Outlook on this unless she needed it for something, I just haven't looked at running Windows on a Mac in years and wasn't sure if it ran seamlessly.

(if I got one it would definitely by the 27")
