The Planetarium in Chapel Hill was holding an event for it, with special glasses to look through to see it, and through telescopes with solar filters.
On the Observatory Deck of the Planetarium:

Telescopes:

Camera in the telescope showing what you see through it:

A little closer in:

They also had a telescope with some stuff over it aimed at the sun and shining the image on a piece of paper behind it, so you saw a bright circle with a dark dot on the paper, and some related shows going on inside the Planetarium.
I'm glad I now have a set of those glasses though, it'll be cool for looking at other stuff going on with the sun, and eclipse stuff maybe too in the future. But this Venus thing wont happen again in my lifetime. 6/5/2012 9:00:13 PM
