I'm still a sneaker guy. Got this for Christmas.

I go low-profile so I can wear them with my normal, more-fitted jeans or skinny jeans

But considering you said shoes or boots for winter that is probably not what you want. But with skinny jeans the key is low profile shoes imo. So I go with something like those Saucony bullets, a low profile PUMA, or chucks.

yeah, i usually wear my chucks. but i've seen some people pull off a high boot with skinny/fitted jeans pretty well.

i also enjoy wearing them with my Clarks Desert Boots, but those are almost useless in the cold and dangerous if there is any ice on the ground.

gotcha. Should have figured you already had chucks

But yea, I really don't have any general purpose shoes that are great with ice/winter weather. I pretty much wear my sneakers everywhere unless I am hiking, at a formal event, or at work. Probably not the smartest, but I don't really see a lot of winter weather luckily.

yeah... all of my shoes are some flavor of driving shoes...

and since my first cole-haan's lasted over a year and are comfy as hell (nike air soles FTW) i tend to look towards them a lot.

i also have way too big of legs to do the skinny jeans think so we differ there too m

(shit i weight 230 now and still out mtb and sprint most people)

yeah, i'm the same way with my chucks. But i'm heading up to NYC next week and was hoping to find something before then. I like those sauconys you linked earlier. Maybe i need to look at a decent sneaker instead of boot if i'll be doing a lot of walking.

yeah that's a good looking desert boot. but if it's a crepe sole then it's almost useless in cold/icy conditions.

I have a pair of Clark Desert Boots. I really like them in the spring/summer/fall. but the crepe soul and thin leather makes them a poor choice for winter.

the pic above is actually a Katahdin Iron Works Engineer boot

CalledToArms do those Sauconys fit true to size?

these aren't the greatest quality, American Eagle, but i think this style would look good with fitted jeans.

^Ordered online and the first pair that came fit me fine. I have mainly gotten PUMAs for years and the same size I wear with PUMA worked for the Sauconys. Now, one thing to keep in mind is the style of the shoe.

If you compare the Saucony pair I just bought:

With the first pair posted in this thread:

You'll see the difference in the soles. With ones I got, the more standard, built-up sole actually stops partway up the foot and the rest of it is just a very thin waffle sole that is very flexible (think wrestling shoes...but that might not mean anything to you if you've never worn those). They are a true street shoe, but based on retro track shoes. If you happen look at the other pair, they have the built-up sole from heel to toe.

I happen to think that they are very comfortable this way: The shoes are extremely light, I actually like the flexibility of the upper part of the shoe, and it gives a very slim profile. I just wanted to warn you, depending on the type of support or sole you tend to like. If you have no support problems walking around in chucks though, you shouldn't have a problem with these either. If you want something with more sole, the Saucony Jazz or the PUMA Whirlwind Classic both have that retro feel with a more traditional sole.

As far as boots go, I have seen plenty of guys pull that kind of look off but it just doesn't work for me. I'm too short or something. Kind of like boots on girls work with longer legs.

well I would argue that those earthkeepers are more rugged than the others because of the double, and in some places triple, stitching (which is what you want if you are into hiking boots). And it looks to be stitched at the sole, instead of glued, which is also ideal.

but if they 'look' too rugged for you then I don't know why you are buying boots.

because i have plenty of work/hiking boots. I'm looking for a stylish "street boot" to get me through the winter. something more durable than a desert boot, but not like a smooth leather laceless chelsea.

that's these here except the soles are white now, not black. They are actually becoming a favorite. my desert boots are a beeswax leather. so i was looking to go either darker or lighter. these are darker.

i may just end up ordering 4 pairs of shoes and sending some back
