I ate at Bouchon with five other folks, and it was spectacular. We went balls out -- got the giant multi-tiered seafood thing and escargot and cheese course and entrees and desert. Everyone tried a little bit of everything on the table. Nobody could find fault with anything (OK, except for the sheep cheese in the cheese course. Nobody liked that). Hands down the best meal I've had in my life.

Also it should be pointed out that the staff was very helpful and patient with a crowd that had an average BAC of about 4.

I had the lamb, which was exquisite, but I almost wish I'd ordered the chicken. I tried a bite of what my buddy ordered. Never before or since have I eaten a chicken breast that was so moist, juicy, and flavorful all the way through. The guy that ordered it didn't say a word throughout the meal.

And lest my praise be incomplete, it wasn't that expensive. For six guys to eat as much as we did, I think the bill topped out at around $700. Pricey, no doubt, but remember we had been looking forward to this meal for some time and had splurged on things (particularly the $140+ seafood thing) that wouldn't normally be parts of a meal.

Burger Bar is fab (Hubert Keller). Kobe beef burger topped with an egg and truffles? OMG

Olives at Bellagio has great food AND amazing views (Todd English concept).

And when you're looking for something super tasty and relatively inexpensive, there's a delish Mexican place in the Venetian that's my go-to when I have a hangover. Best hangover food around.

the one thing that I don't skimp on is food. Growing up in a "foodie" family, I've learned the immense pleasure that comes from enjoying a great meal.

Sadly, the best restaurant in Las Vegas (where we had our wedding reception) closed down last summer. RIP Rosemary's.

I save on my everyday groceries so I can go splurge on great meals on vacation.

Going to Baltimore, Boston and NYC next week. Can't wait for the culinary adventures that will happen. Hope my pregnant belly will cooperate.

L'atelier Robuchon is still one of the best meals I've had anywhere. It's the cheapest three michelin star restaurant in the world and offers ala cart. The food is actually inventive instead of being merely food most people don't eat prepared well.

Sure it was pricey, but it's also not a meal I have often -- had ever had, really, or think I'm going to have again in the next few years. I assume that if someone is asking "foodies" for good restaurants in Las Vegas, they know it's going to be a special occasion and thus expensive.

And let me reiterate we got a lot of extra shit. The entrees range from $30-50, which still isn't cheap but is a damn sight more affordable than the total bill makes it sound. You could easily get an inferior plate at Outback for around that much. The $110 Grand Plateau was the real killer (although for that you got a gigantic lobster, 16 oysters, 8 "shrimp" that were looked big enough to fight off a small dog, 8 clams, 8 mussels, a pile of crab legs, and a "special selection" (which in our case turned out to be more oysters, just bigger and from a different region). Considering they have to fly all that shit into the middle of the goddamn desert with regularity, I'd say it was a good deal.

As for the sheep cheese, none of us had any prejudice against it -- hell, we requested a selection that would include a sheep cheese. It just turned out that none of us liked it very much. As I recall it tasted pretty strongly of old broccoli. For all I know that's desirable in a sheep cheese to the more refined classes, but I am not in the refined class.

I'm no expert, but I had heard that "kobe beef burgers" defeated the point of kobe beef, which was its excellent fat marbling (which of course is lost when you grind it up). Anyone know anything about this?

I second this. I can't remember what it was called but we ate there a couple of times and all enjoyed it.

The Venetian is a pretty awesome place and I'm glad we stayed there (got a deal on the room, obviously), but we couldn't afford to gamble there at all. Fortunately it's right next door to Casino Royale, which is basically a downtown-level place that has somehow managed to survive on the strip.

Palm steak house in Caesars (Ask for Dutch)
tao at the venitian

and best of all look for Happy hour deals in the late afternoon, you can eat well tappas style doing that from casino to casino.

I'll be at Bellagio next weekend, so will definitely try B&B Ristorante. Will probably return to Olives for drinks/apps/fountain show.

Any other must-try dining experiences near Bellagio? Say, within a couple of blocks, and on the strip?

Strip Burger is really good - it's on the corner right across from Wynn. They've got awesome burgers and fries. Their shakes are supposed to be good too, but I've never gotten one because I didn't have room for it after the food.

The best eats I had though was when we stopped to get a lunch snack at Hussong's Cantina in Mandalay.

I'll second (or third) Olives at Bellagio. Just make sure you sit close to the windows if you can and you should be able to catch their water show while you eat.

I'll second this place being delicious. It's a regular place frequented by locals, not a gourmet celebrity chef restaurant, so count it as a regular meal rather than your special occasion. But it's fantastic.


As to the more well-known joints, I would personally go with Robuchon, Bouchon, or Burger Bar.
