Those shitbag cunts. Sure, they're ASE certified masters and all. But they intentionally dumb Car Talk down a LOT and leave out a lot of info. But it's kind of understandable. Like leaving the Apocrypha out of the Bible because it would undermine the faith and cause confusion amongst the unwashed.

i think they dumb it down because it's entertainment, and they want lots of people to listen, duh.

is it really dead?

Or the general public, who is listening wouldn't care/would get lost/wouldn't listen.

They took a generally boring topic that hardly anyone would listen to on some public radio bullshit station, and turned it into an entertaining, funny, and somewhat educational program.

If you're a mechanic, you probably don't like it because "they leave stuff out"; if you're not a mechanic, you don't care that they "leave stuff out". People don't listen to car talk to solve their car issues; they listen for entertainment. As far as the callers, they get SOME information related to the problem, get to hear themselves talk, get to talk on the radio, and be entertained.

Clearly you don't get the point of this show.

Clearly I do. It is entertaining. Been listening to it and reading it for YEARS. But the frustration of observing enough erroneous advice finally got to me. Sure they have to dumb it down, but goddamn. It's not what it used to be either. But then I'm an old goddamned fart.

I think that it is pretty obvious that they had actual mechanics feeding them the answers instead of them coming to their own conclusions.

^ haha. I agree! and totally figured that out by listening to them... I mean, a couple of times I could HEAR the mechanics creeping towards them and hanging them a piece of paper with the answers. One time I even HEARD them whisper in one of their ears!!

those silly bastards

It was my gateway drug into NPR. So long, and I'll be switching to Adam Carolla's CarCast... now.

I must be the only person happy for this. I hate that show, they are so annoying. I feel bad for their staff though, I've been told it's pretty big (for a NPR show staff) so I hope they aren't all out having to look for jobs now.
