What's up with everyone going to Costa Rica nowadays? I'm not hating; I'm genuinely curious. Out of all the other central and south american countries, why does costa rica specifically seem to be getting shitloads of american tourism now?

^ Its not Mexico, not half in revolution, and actually is kinda nice. But mostly the first 2. And its not a far flight from the US, like the South American countries are (some of which are also not the first 2.)

Its also very open to international companies which is why a lot of big businesses are setting up offices or contract offices. Country is very beautiful, beaches, mountains.

edit: it also doesnt hate the US more than anyone else really does.

I'd rather be going to Costa Rica than India... Which is what I'm doing again next week. Then Amsterdam on the way back for a few days .

Duke: Costa Rica has pretty good infrastructure. Even with very basic Spanish skills you can travel the country cheaply and easily. With the bus system in place, you can go from coast-to-coast in less than a day for only a few dollars.

Yep. Easy to get around, relatively inexpensive, fairly safe, and there are plenty of spots that aren't completely touristy even though it's a popular destination.
