Saw an interesting article a while back on shit like this. Essentially saying these "slammer" type publications screw people over by creating a digital footprint for people that isn't so easy to erase....even after the public record with the police department and court is erased/destroyed when people are either found not guilty, the offender serves their time, or the case is otherwise disposed of.

^^^^^I agree- i had a warrant out for my arrest because they misspelled my name (like, really bad) and this messed up my lawyers getting a case continued... I mean, majority of the time, I bet it is just people being dumb, but it isn't always the case

Publication legally prints mugshots, names, and crimes of those charged with crimes.

Why would yours be any different? You weren't the first or last.

A few months ago, a woman's mugshot was printed in the Slammer for prostitution. She was a preacher's wife. Her actual crime was something like unpaid parking tickets, or something else equally as benign, and they just fucked up the caption.

Some of the publications will remove material for free if you can prove the charges were dismissed. Others charge a fee to remove any material. Some associate the latter with blackmail/extortion.

Meh...you do realize many of these are arrest photos, right? an arrest is very much different than a conviction.

Even with that, the point is this digital footprint remains even after public records disappear, and people are trying to move on with their life. IMO, that's a bit like shackling an anvil to someone's foot while they're swimming, then blaming them for drowning.


My two cents anyway, i've soapboxed about this before, and don't need to do it again, I guess. My beef isn't so much with people reading the publications anyway, as it is with the publishers.

Its all public record, those publications hound agencies for the photos.

Correct - for example, you getting arrested for DWI and you go down and blow a 0.04 and they magistrate and officer are like no thanks...you still have an arrest record.

I won't serve those because I'm civilly liable for a bad arrest. But there is also a new statewide system that holds all warrants, orders for arrest, etc and only certain people can change the name on the warrants so sometimes they get issued under a prior alias and that can get complicated.
