2005 GTO

Recently (as in last week recently), I started randomly getting a popping feeling from time to time at low speed.

Seems to happen when im driving in a straight line
Seems to happen most below 10mph

Seems to occour shortly after going over a bump, or divit.

Having the clutch depress, or the car in gear or out of gear does not seem to make a difference

From time to time in the past i have heard a squeaking sound from the front, but only with the windows down (assumed breaks).

Now with the car parked, if i push on the front end (either side) i can hear a metallic popping type sound.

Any Ideas? I have aftermarket rims, and aftermarket rear springs. Only other mods is headers and exhaust.

I'm not sure what's worse: breaks, or VTECH.

I'm gonna go with breaks

I had a similar noise issue. Mine turned out to be the lower front control arm (and accompanying ball joint). I still haven't fixed it though. Don't have the tools to do it myself and I'm just too prideful to pay a shop to do it.

You may have to do my trick that I did to find your popping, clunking sound. Check out my recent thread below...

message_topic.aspx?topic=627992

1) Drive up on a few planks of wood
2) Crawl under car
3) Have friend push on front end (or in my case, it's so bad that I pushed/pulled on the underbody myself and recreated the sound ... see the video)

Sounds like a textbook bad ball joint to me. Just jack the car up so the tire is off the ground, and then see if the wheel can clunk up and down or pivot and such. If so replace ball joint(s) . . . . done.

after further investigation it looks like it may be a tie rod end link...The wheel has some play from left to right.

This thing has only 65k miles and the suspension is shit.

Rear springs were replaced because the stock ones were abused on the boat over to america. Hence rear end sag and camber issues.

BTW whoever put those fucking stupid phillips head bolts on honda rotors should be shot.

They put them on there for people like you
Just get an impact screw driver. Or replicate one with a screwdriver and hammer and you'll get them off.
