Dayton. Going to see some of the wife's extended family so it's not much of a vacation.

Also going down to Atlanta during labor day weekend for a sports filled vacation. That will be much more fun.

Fuck if I know. First time in my life I've had money and vacation time. Never traveled far from the east coast, so I'll have to think of something good.

Visiting my parents in Daytona Beach.
That is all the vacation I get this summer.

I'm taking a couple days to go camping in the fall, and a few days a Xmas.

I'm trying to figure out why "summer" is in "quotation marks" in the "thread title".

That's "weird".

Summer is in quotation marks because it is a relative term depending on your present situation.
1) The current season is technically spring in the northern hemisphere
2) If you are a teacher or student, you are likely on summer break
3) some people work all the time and probably don't even acknowledge summertime

I would've put "going" in quotes instead.

Atlantic City with friends in a few weeks. Taking a train trip with my wife and a group of friends in July. Chicago-Denver-Reno-San Francisco.

Hopefully we'll make it to Dallas and Austin to visit some friends and Seattle and Portland to visit others as well.

July has a staff meeting in NOLA & business trip to Peoria (which sucks but I have some good friends there so I get to see them) & a BBQ in Austin to honor my brother back from deployment. Also some friends from San Fran visiting for 2 nights.

August is already booked up with trips to Vermont, Denver & Minneapolis plus a childhood friend coming to visit me.

September is my other brothers wedding in Seattle

Other than that, nothing. Will prob try to get to the UK & Iceland (on the way) to visit a dear friend that just moved there.

Already did Chile, NYC, Philly, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Crested Butte, Austin, Canyon Lake this year so I guess I'm doing pretty good on the travel bit.

going to Austin to see a friend. Also going to Europe in late September early October. Going to Octoberfest in Munich with a friend, our birthdays are both that week, so should be cool. Also tentatively going to Amsterdam, Budapest, Istanbul, and Edinburgh. Maybe some train connecting cities in between like Bratislava or Berlin

I'll go to Wrightsville/Atlantic/Pamilco Beaches at least 15-20 times, and I'm hoping to make it out to Burning Man the first week of September.

spent 4 days in croatia last week, iceland for a week next month, barcelona when a friend comes to visit in august (also maybe a few days in prague and/or budapest), and a few days in a copenhagen before and after a work conference end of august

sad to be missing my family's annual two weeks in islamorada but staying in europe this summer (mostly... leaving next week for a month on a boat in the north atlantic but that's all work)

Going to Ocean Isle with friends this upcoming week, then I have the week of the 4th of July off, and probably won't do anything except lay around the pool and start my hot yoga classes, then I'm working my butt off until Thanksgiving, which is when I will be on my honeymoon.

I just got back from a wedding in Vegas.

8 hotels on the strip lost their network = 200,000+ people pissed off waiting 5+ hours to check in.
400,000 drugged out losers in town for some EDC electric dance concert thingy who were puking everywhere.
Got knocked in the pool with my phone in my pocket.
10,000 pissed off little philippinos flooded the strip after the Pacquiao fight.
Flight delayed 6 hours coming home.

Already spent a weekend in Carolina Beach, plus 2 day trips to Wrightsville Beach (mini-vaca?). As to the coming months...NYC/Long Island for a week, Hilton Head for a week and a 4 day weekend in Miami.

After those trips my attention will be focused on NCSU football!

One more week of work then I'll be at the shore. Spending my 2nd 29th birthday week in Wildwood, NJ just like when I was a kid I'm really looking forward to this, we have a really nice hotel that is "disney clean" according to my brother and it'll be my first "vacation" since Jan 2011 that doesn't involve driving to NC and moving household items. I just want to lay on the beach, do some morning runs along the boardwalk, and maybe get a little drunk celebrating turning 29 again!

Summer in quotes. Is "summer" not going to happen this year?

Winter gave Spring and Summer a miss and went straight on into Autumn.

Edit:
Quote :
"3) some people work all the time and probably don't even acknowledge summertime"

Oh, that best describes my situation... unfortunately 98 degrees with 80% humidity day after day after day after day doesn't afford me the luxury of not acknowledging summertime.

^^Summer technically is June 20th till Sept 22nd, but a lot of people view it as Memorial Day weekend till Labor Day weekend. I'm pretty sure that's why it was put in quotations.

Also, it would appear that some people in this thread still don't know what summer time is. Either that or they've done a lot of traveling in the last few weeks...

Just a heads up that even with Edinburgh aside, you're probably talking about flights and not trains with those. Except for Munich to Budapest (but even that will probably be around 5 hours), it's cheaper and faster to fly. Also just personal opinion, but Prague > Budapest.
