those that have one
I know I'm behind on this by however many years
but I went ahead and ordered one, cause I thought it'd be cool - I've used one for a while before and liked it
only drawback for me is that I type so fast, it's frustrating to type on those little pads
but how much do you like it, let's say on a scale from 1 to 10? I guess it's too late to return now, so this thread might be moot, but what are the best apps, functions etc? advantages/disadvantages from other tablets? 6/20/2012 12:10:27 AM

like the browser app has a back button, but unlike other tablets, it doesnt have a dedicated back button where you can take a step back in any app
like if you have an app open and go into settings, you probably can't get out of settings to the app without homescreening and re-opening the app
also it doesnt support flash

if this is really about the iPad, then its lived up to the hype more than any device I have ever bought and I highly recommend it.
if this is some stupid shit that will quickly turn into dozens Crispus Attucks pics and that gif of the Italian guy opening the door and shaking his head in horror/disbelief, eat a dick. 6/20/2012 12:19:43 AM

i personally think the lack of back button and flash support are negatives
did you get an iPad 3 by the way? screen supposedly looks awesome as shit (i thought the screen on the iPad 2 looked great, but people say its much better on the 3)
personally, i'm happy with my $99 WebOS/Android tablet which has a back button and flash support...the 8 hours I spent clicking on the Opera browser to order it during the clearance sale has been well worth it 6/20/2012 12:20:24 AM

BubbleBobble BACK IN DA HIGH LIFE 114644 Posts user info edit post |
I think it's the iPad 2 actually - walmart.com (lol walmart) was having a sale of like 399 for it so I figured I'd give it a try, and got a little accessories bundle with it
idk if that's a great price but it's better than 500+
so if there's no flash support, does that mean you just have to use apple-specific services to access those things that would normally have flash, or just those services are most likely not available?
crud, I should have considered an Android tablet, or at least some other options 6/20/2012 12:23:03 AM

TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148871 Posts user info edit post |
i mean you can still watch youtube videos and stuff, you just cant necessarily use every yahoo stattracker or flash game you could from a computer
not a huge dealbreaker but i prefer having the option since not all websites adhere to Adobe's "don't use mobile flash anymore" standards
bottom line is you'll like it, but every now and then you'll find a site that you can't use] 6/20/2012 12:25:05 AM

cool, 'preciate the info
I realized the kindle fire has flash, but it has so many apps and stuff that aren't available for it, that I'm tired of it and giving it away most likely
it was good for reading tho I guess
damn I feel like I'm abandoning an old friend here 6/20/2012 12:30:14 AM

pretty sure you can install a rooted Android ROM on the kindle fire to essentially turn it into an Android tablet
might wanna hold off on getting rid of it til you investigate that route...nothing wrong with having an iPad AND an android tablet 6/20/2012 12:31:36 AM

^I actually did that, for example with the turntable.fm app
for whatever reason I can't get it straight on the kindle so I got someone's android phone and got it up there that way
good point
maybe I won't get rid of it after all 6/20/2012 12:33:31 AM

do ipads not work how iphones do? i don't have one so i don't know. double tab the home button to bring up the quick-switching thingy at the bottom 6/20/2012 9:57:02 AM

Also if you turn on gestures you can use 4 fingers and swipe left, which takes you to the app you were using previously. Or you can use 4 fingers and swipe up which pulls a little menu up from the bottom of the screen that allows you to select from recently used apps and change a few basic settings like volume and brightnes. 6/20/2012 10:01:28 AM

I currently sport personally or from work:
Nook Color Apple New iPad Asus Eee Pad Transformer
Nook Color
As a comparison I like the Nook Color for reading, but after I got the other two tablets I now know just how shitty it is for web browsing. The battery lasts a long damn time though when just in eReader mode, so that is what I use it for. Plus its not as big and bulky as the other two, so its easier to stash in my bookbag, get out and use on the bus and shit like that.
New iPad
I had the original iPad, and now have the New iPad. I prefer it for web browsing, FB, photo browsing, etc. etc. I use it for some work stuff as well and currently have it sitting on my desk as a photo frame when its charging. While I prefer the Nook for its compactness, I still catch myself using the iPad for ereading. Also comic books look amazing on it. It is probably the best jack of all trades.
Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime
I have not used this as much. It is very comparable to my iPad in all capabilities, but I do not like the Google App Store as much as the Apple App Store. In the case I have it is also a lot harder to hit the power button, which is a pain in the ass, and the charging port being on the die makes it harder to charge and stuff. Petty stuff I know, but still it has caused me to mainly stick with the iPad for carrying on the go. 6/20/2012 10:21:48 AM

In my entire time using my gfs ipad and iphone i have never had to "homescreen and re-open" to get out of any app's settings menu.
any app that had an abyss of a settings menu like that would no doubt get rejected on application to the app store.
