Someone please advise. I had a flight from SEA to RDU that was a ~400 flight round trip. I canceled the leg back and they gave me a code to "change the flight" but american charges 250 dollars to change a flight. So basically, is the flight even worth 250 dollars? Would I have to pay 250 dollars plus the difference in fare?

I am trying to use this flight to make an international flight that costs around 100 dollars. Logically, it seems like there is nothing I can get out of this voucher code. I am away from internet and phone so if anyone knows anything about this let me know.

Yes, if your voucher is worth less than $100 somehow.

Save the voucher for a flight that's more than $100.

What details do you need? I guess I phrased it wrong.

Buys Round trip flight: 400

Cancels return: ???value???

AA Change fee: 250

Basic logic: 400/2= 200 - 250(change fee)= negative value for my voucher.

It seems like I have to pay 250 dollars PLUS the value difference in the return flight so if i were to book a hypothetical 201 dollar flight I would have to pay 251 for the flight.

It seems the value would be -50

If you don't need the return flight... Just don't show up for it

Congrats, you paid $400 for a one way ticket

Likely not worth the change fees to 'cancel' it & pay to use it later
