I suspect that, in some cultures, talking during the movie is actually a sort of social experience/pastime/contest: who can make the keenest observations or come up with the best jokes/reactions, etc...

A group of women (white and black) behind me at the $1.50 theater once talked continuously through the Black Swan, sharing their opinions and whatnot. This occurrence is not particularly surprising...except at the end of the movie, as we were all filing out, I overheard them agreeing that they liked the movie better the first time they had seen it. So it would appear that they don't really care about the movie--it's all about the social experience they have during the movie.

I can't sleep so I'm just posting a lot of pointless stuff on the Internet. Sorry, guys.
